Glass Mind Theatre Company, voted Best New Theater 2010 by City Paper, will host a fundraising Cabaret featuring an array of music from Gershwin to Gaga at An Die Musik on November 14, 2010.
"Taking the Long Way: Singer Meets World" will be an evening of cabaret-style entertainment featuring Glass Mind company member Britt Olsen-Ecker and associate artist Maggie Finnegan, accompanied by Michael Sheppard; all three are Peabody graduates. The show poses the question: How do two pop-song-loving opera singers survive as starving artists?
Cabaret director and singer Olsen-Ecker says, "The reason this is a special cabaret is because we're not just doing typical show tunes and stereotypical cabaret-style songs - we're incorporating pop!"
Glass Mind Theatre Company was formed in October of 2009 by a group of young Baltimore- based theatre artists who seek to foster the interaction of both Baltimore commercial and non- traditional artists in order to create new forms of expression, while also acting as a focal point for bold, young local artists to train, grow, and prosper.
Glass Mind hopes to raise funds through two showings of "Taking the Long Way." The first showing at 5pm includes a drink voucher and admission to a reception to meet the artists. The second show at 8pm is aimed at a "starving artist" audience, ie reduced admission but no drink voucher or reception.
"Taking the Long Way: Artist Meets World" will be performed at An Die Musik, 409 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21201, 5pm and 8pm. 5pm entrance is $25, which includes a drink and a meet-the-artist reception, 8pm entrance is $10 without a drink or reception. Write to
