The Laurie Beechman Theatre will be home to an extraordinary night of new work and stellar talent on February 6, 2009, as Alexander Gemignani ("Road Show", "Les Misérables"), Jason Tam ("A Chorus Line"), Donna Lynne Champlin ("Sweeney Todd"), Alysha Umphress ("Make Me A Song") and others perform in "Marry Me, America: An Evening of Songs by Daniel Maté." Show time is 8 PM.
Maté is a singer-songwriter, composer-lyricist, bookwriter, and multi-instrumental performer from Vancouver, Canada. He is also the co-writer, with Will Aronson, of the ‘slugular' new musical "The Trouble With Doug", inspired by Kafka's "Metamorphosis", which will receive its premiere production this Spring at CAP21. His work has been performed at Joe's Pub, the York Theatre, the Duplex, Goodspeed Musicals, Barrington Stages, and most recently at the Beechman in January's "State Of The Union" Cabaret. Several of his songs have appeared in "Songs By Ridiculously Talented Writers You Probably Haven't Heard Of But Should", curated by William Finn ("Falsettos", "A New Brain", "...Spelling Bee").
Other performers will include Brandon J. Ellis ("Company"), Heath Calvert ("Good Vibrations"), Danny Gardner, Brittney Borgstedt, Auri Marcus, and Jordan Price. Maté will also perform several of his own songs. The evening will feature music direction by Christopher D. Littlefield.
The Laurie Beechman Theatre is located inside the West Bank Café, 407 West 42nd Street at Ninth Avenue. For reservations e-mail marrymeamerica@gmail.com or call 212-695-6909. There is a $10 cover charge and a $15 food/drink minimum.
