Gabrielle Stravelli Trio will appear at Birdland Jazz on May 6th in support of their new release, "Beautiful Moons Ago" out May 3rd.

Acclaimed vocalist & songwriter Gabrielle Stravelli blends musical traditions with a modern, genre-bending sensibility. Her fifth release, “Beautiful Moons Ago” is her first to feature her trio with pianist Michael Kanan and bassist Pat O'Leary.

Over twelve years of collaborating, the trio has developed a deep musical connection that allows for great spontaneity in their performances. Recorded at the legendary Rudy Van Gelder Studio, “Beautiful Moons Ago” mines the jazz and American Songbook repertoire to bring you rarely heard gems + one original, all performed with the trio's joyously hard swinging style.

"I'd been playing with Mike Kanan and Pat O'Leary for nearly ten years when COVID hit. Once the worst part of lockdown was over, we were really eager to keep playing together. We started out by going to Mike's studio in Brooklyn and playing sessions. Then in the summer of 2021 we started playing every Saturday at the West Bank Cafe on 42nd St. We were playing inside an empty restaurant to people dining outside on the sidewalk. Every week we brought new tunes to the gig.

Then in June of 2022 the trio launched the Tuesday at 5:30 time slot at Birdland and played that slot for two months. Again, we kept digging deep into the Songbook repertoire, bringing in new and often rarely heard tunes every week. of song seems lost for all the fog, the voice of Gabrielle Stravelli cuts through like a lighthouse of emotional integrity.”
