In GODFREY JOHNSON IN CABARET, the popular eponymous South African cabaret artist will be performing songs by some of the greatest songwriters of the twentieth century, including Jacques Brel, Noel Coward, David Bowie, Supertramp, Leonard Cohen, Tori Amos, The Decemberists and Billy Joel in an evening of intimate and marvellous cabaret.
Johnson, a multi-award-winning actor, singer, composer and pianist, is known for his originality, humour and skill. He has been wowing international audiences for over twenty years and continues to do so with his eclectic and ground-breaking style. He has a huge repertoire, from which the material for this show will be drawn.
Songs that will be featured in GODFREY JOHNSON IN CABARET include "The Logical Song", "If We Only Have Love", "Hallelujah", "Mrs Worthington", "Sleeps With Butterflies", "Mad Dogs and Englishmen", "The Mariner's Revenge", "Piano Man" and "Life On Mars". Johnson will also perform his own compositions, namely "Modern Man" and "I'm Not Going to Sing That Song". He will also introduce some of his hilarious alter egos such as the concerned citizen, Nugent Stein and the insane kugel Divina Munschka.
Johnson's credits include David Kramer's musical, ORPHEUS IN AFRICA, as well as Karen Jeynes's solo play, VASLAV, for which he was nominated for three Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards. He has made numerous television appearances and starred in the film ONCE UPON A ROADTRIP. He also composed the music for Pieter-Dirk Uys's musical, DIE VAN AARDES VAN GROOTOOR.
