The French singer and actress Floanne shines a fresh new light on Paris in her musical tribute to the French spirit at Feinstein's/54 Below tonight, April 22 at 9:30pm. Backed by her band of New York jazz innovators led by Dan Furman on piano, the one-night-only special engagement of "Floanne: April in Paris" weaves together a mix of timeless French standards and art song repertoire.
Since she arrived on these shores some 10 years ago, Floanne has forged her own nightclub sound and style, a unique balancing act of French sophistication and American spontaneity. In "Floanne: April in Paris" the downtown songstress basks in the ineffable qualities that make Paris, the City of Light, an international beacon of liberty and a touchstone for artists and lovers around the world. She also explores the spirit of urban fortitude that has linked Paris and New York in this century, and particularly since November of last year.
Proceeds from this performance go to Strength to Strength, an organization that brings together the survivors of terrorism around the world.
In shows and appearances at Joe's Pub,
Symphony Space, The Standard Hotel, "Sleep No More," Bryant Park and MoMA, the French-born and New York-based Floanne has coined her own musical take on the French standards, especially the chansons first sung by
Edith Piaf, adding soupçons of theatre, dance and opera.
At Feinstein's/54 Below she goes deeper into French pop-music-hall repertoire, performing songs popularized by
Charles Aznavour, Brigitte Bardot,
Yves Montand,
Jacques Brel, Françoise Hardy, Joe Dassin, and Yves Duteil.
Feinstein's/54 Below is a classically designed state-of-the-art nightclub that presents iconic and rising stars from the worlds of Broadway and popular music.
