FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club, presents UNCIVIL In Concert. The original folk rock/Bluegrass-infused musical comedy, previously know as Bayonets of Angst, returns to NYC after an acclaimed sellout run at the 2015 Adirondack Theatre Festival. Originally presented by the New York Musical Theatre Festival under Executive Director & Producer, Dan Markley, UNCIVIL won rave reviews for its 2014 NYMF run and received four Excellence Awards including Best Book, Best Ensemble Performance, and Outstanding Individual Performance for Brian Charles Rooney and J. Robert Spencer.
Recently called a "Triumph" by the Glens Falls Chronicle, the concert presentation of Rick Kunzi (Book, Music, Lyrics), Justin Zeppa (Book), and Adam Barnosky's (Music) UNCIVL will feature an all- star ensemble cast including Tony Nominee J. Robert Spencer (Jersey Boys, Next to Normal), Brian Charles Rooney (Threepenny Opera, Bedbugs), Michael Abbott Jr. (Mud, Puddn'head Wilson), Ian Lowe (Murder for Two), Wayne Duvall (Spielberg's Lincoln, O Brother Where Art Thou?), and Mitchell Jarvis (Rock of Ages).
Helmed by Steve Bebout (Something Rotten, Book of Mormon), with choreography by Chris Bailey (Chocolate Factory's Assassins, Peter Pan LIVE) and music supervision/arrangements by Brian Usifer (Kinky Boots, Book of Mormon), UNCIVIL tells the "somewhat mostly true" story of America's Civil War, as told through the eyes of its last surviving veteran. The impossibly old codger's foggy memories and competing tails of what really happened give way to an irreverent comic tour de force about the legacy of America's Civil War and those who fought it.
Uncivil, The Musical In Concert plays Feinstein's/54 Below (254 West 54th Street) on Feb 2nd at 9:30pm. There is a $40 cover charge and $25 food and beverage minimum. Tickets and information are available at www.54Below.com. Tickets on the day of performance after 4:00 are only available by calling (646) 476-3551.
Executive producers Louis Hobson of Indie Theatrical, Ken Wirth & J. Robert Spencer of 7Spencer Productions are quoted as saying, "We are proud to be presenting, in partnership with ATF Artistic Director Chad Rabinovitz, this exciting & hilarious new American musical. Our mission is to bring new work and new creative voices to the forefront and we can't imagine a better place to do that than Feinstein's/54 Below. After seeing Uncivil at NYMF in 2014 our team knew right away that it was something we wanted to be involved in. The mix of comedic virtuosity and unique storytelling, along with the vibrant authenticity of this folk rock/bluegrass infused score, felt wholly original and of the moment. In some ways, it does for the Civil War what Spamalot did for the Knights of the Roundtable, bringing these now almost mythological characters of Lincoln, Mary Todd, Sherman, Grant, McClellan & Lee down to earth in a wonderfully irreverent and strangely heartfelt way."
Since its founding in 1994, ATF has launched 19 world premieres, many of which have gone on to receive productions in NYC, across the country and internationally. These include Murder for Two, It Goes Without Saying, Mimi Le Duck, Barbara's Blue Kitchen, and Fully Committed. The new play development process succeeds at ATF by engaging the audience as active participants in the process through readings, post-show discussions, open rehearsals, and "meet the writer" events. ATF has also brought many Off-Broadway, Broadway, and regional theatre hits to its stage for its local audiences. These include Next to Normal, Avenue Q, Ring of Fire, The Whale, Black Tie, Altar Boyz, and Stones in His Pockets.
