Broadway World Cabaret continues its series about the artists for whom our team is grateful.
The Drinkwater Brothers - The Next Big Thing
As they were coming out of college, John Drinkwater and his similarly-visaged brother Matthew were regulars at Jim Caruso's Cast Party. A Birdland gig as a last-minute replacement for an act that canceled put the brothers on the radar of the entire cabaret and concert community and paying public. Although Matt and John had dipped their toes into the small venue waters, the prestige and visibility of playing Birdland vaulted them to a new level as, over the next year, their popularity grew. Three years, two albums, and one pandemic later, The Drinkwater Brothers have become internet favorites through their regular concerts on Facebook and Instagram, and although they have only played one new Drinkwater Brothers show since the lifting of the lockdown, something new is always in the works for the twins. In the meantime, John and Matthew have appeared as guest artists in group shows like Joshua Stackhouse's Canada Day Celebration and they played the Antipholuses in a concert staging of THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE at 54 Below. Matthew Drinkwater and John Drinkwater aren't about to rest, any time soon, and it's a good thing, too, because they have amassed a huge following of fans online and in person, fans who turn up at every show they do, even if it's one song in a group show. The accidental songwriters and multiple-instrument musicians are constantly looking for the next thing that they will create, and, to date, they haven't had a miss. It's an enviable track record.
