Cabaret Cares, the series that raises funds for Help Is On The Way Today, officially kicks off Season 7 with Spirit Award Recipient Eric Michael Gillett. Created and produced by MAC Award Winner Joseph Macchia, Cabaret Cares raises money for the non-profit Help Is On The Way Today, which helps and assists children living with HIV and AIDS in New York City. The series has raised over $74,000 since it started 7 years ago.
This year, the series kicks off With Eric Michael Gillett and Friends in "We Lost It At The Movies." Eric Michael Gillett (2012 MAC Award Winner-Outstanding Major Artist-Male) and an amazing group of cabaret stars and stars-to-be join together to take the audience on a trip to the movies, singing songs from iconic screen gems that have enchanted audiences in darkened movie theaters from decades past to the present. From the obscure ("I Was Born in Love With You" from Wuthering Heights and "If I Close My Eyes" from Up the Sandbox) to the classic ("Moon River," "Over the Rainbow,") Gillett & Friends take you with them into the world of movie music and celebrate our love of cinema and the enchantment of the silver screen.
The evening will feature performances by Jodi Beck, Sheera Ben-David, Nina Hennessey, Marieann Meringolo, Melanie Vaughan, Leah Jennings, Eva Kantor, Jerry Phelps, Cookie Stark, Stephanie Sumerville, and Anders Holst. Jeff Cubeta will musical direct the evening.
"We Lost It At The Movies" will be presented at The Laurie Beechman Theatre (407 West 42nd Street) on October 17 at 7pm. Doors open at 6:15. There is a $20 cover charge and a $15 food/drink minimum. For reservations, call 212-695-6909.
