The Mabel Mercer Foundation's 2007 New York Cabaret Convention will include the talents of Andrea Marcovicci, Tony Award-winner Christine Ebersole and Julie Wilson, according to the organization's website.
The Cabaret Convention will take place at the Rose Theater, Jazz at Lincoln Center (Broadway at 60th Street) from Monday, November 5-8, 2007
On Monday, November 5th, the Convention will have its gala opening. Performing classic songs will be: Barbara Brussell, Judy Butterfield, Barbara Carroll, Tony DeSare, Jeff Harnar, Maude Maggart, Andrea Marcovicci, Steve Ross, Catherine Russell, Jennifer Sheehan and Paula West.The Mabel Award will be presented to Marcovicci "in grateful acknowledgment of the elegance, intelligence, communicative power, and musical magic she ceaselessly shares with the world-wide cabaret community.""The Art of the Performance" will be presented on Tuesday, November 6. Described as "a most special gathering of talent …with a finale Act Two that celebrates the season's most remarkable return to New York," it will feature, in Act One: Christine Ebersole, Greta, Pamela Luss, Steve Kirwan and Billy Stritch. Act Two of "The Art of The Performance" features "The Marvelous Marilyn Maye."
Billy Stritch will be presented with The Bart Howard Encouragement Award "in happy recognition of his outstanding musical taste and gifts as composer, arranger, singer, musician, and exemplary cabaret entertainer."
On Wednesday, November 7th, a "Centennial Celebration" will "honor the 100th birthday anniversaries of an unforgettable roster of composers, lyricists, and performers." That concert will feature Eric Comstock, Cynthia Crane, Barbara Fasano, Terese Genecco, Valerie Lemon, Phillip Officer, Julie Reyburn, Lumiri Tubo and Julie Wilson.
Julie Reyburn will be presented with The Julie Wilson Award "in joyful gratitude for the vocal majesty and lyrical interpretation she continually manifests in her classic presentations of The Great Popular Songbook."
Eric Comstock will be presented with The Dick Gallagher Award "in celebration of his exceptional expertise and outstanding achievement as vocalist, accompanist, musical director, and cabaret producer."
On Thursday, November 8th, "For Edythe, With Love" will be performed as "a loving musical remembrance of a great, good friend to The Mabel Mercer Foundation who cherished cabaret, its stars and songs: Edythe Kenner." The concert will feature Adam Alexander, Klea, Blackhurst, Boston Musical Theater, Sidney Myer. Mark Nadler, Craig Rubano, KT Sullivan and Wesla Whitfield
Sidney Myer will be presented with The Paula Laurence Award "in heartfelt and ongoing appreciation for the continual caring, compassion, and camaraderie he unfailingly exhibits as performer, purveyor, and long-time cabaret producer and entrepreneur."
