Dorothy Bishop is a Yale trained soprano who always had the innate ability to impersonate other divas and made a nice living at it when she discovered she looked a lot like Sarah Palin. (“Dorothy Bishop is wayyyyy funnier than Sarah Palin,” wrote Village Voice columnist Michael Musto.) After those 15 minutes of fame, a brief stint on America’s Got Talent, and various and sundry cruise ship gigs, Bishop began impersonating divas who were even more fabulous than herself. Now she’s bringing her hilarious act to The Iguana, where on Monday, October 8 (8pm) she debuts DOZEN DIVAS, featuring Dorothy playing Lindsay playing Liz, Streisand singing Kei$ha, Christine mocking the Phantom, Mae West taking on Brittney Spears, and Kristin Chenoweth giving you the ultimate Broadway and TV voice lessons. The show is directed by James Jorden (Parterre.com) and co-hosted by the fresh-faced, barely legal Gregory Uliasz (Amigo Duende).
Like all the really cool and edgy shows these days, DOZEN DIVAS will be performed underground—downstairs at the slightly decadent Lizard Lounge at IThe guana. Bishop’s show will run every Monday thru December at 8pm (Please check for possible time changes during the run.) There is no cover or minimum for tonight's show, but there will be a $5 cover charge starting on October 15 (such a deal!) To celebrate the Halloween season, later this month DOZEN DIVAS will feature special guest appearances by Sexy Elvira (Erika Smith) and Hypnotist/Magician Eric Walton. On October 29, audience members will have a chance for a special Halloween show prize for best costume.
The Iguana, Lizard Lounge (downstairs) is at 240 West 54th Street, New York, NY 10019, (212) 765-5454 (Iguananyc.com). For more information on Dorothy Bishop and DOZEN DIVAS, go to: dorothybishop.com
