Emily Bergl will return to NY with her cabaret show, "Kidding on the Square" on April 26 and 27th. Ms. Bergl, accompanied by acclaimed musical director G. Scott Lacy, will perform at the the Laurie Beechman Theatre. She is currently starring on ABC's "Desperate Housewives" as Beth Young, and on TNT's "Southland," as Tammi Bryant. She most recently appeared on the New York stage in Second Stage's "Becky Shaw," a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.
"Kidding on the Square," is an evening of old fashioned love songs with a twist, a journey that takes the audience on a roaring 20's ride through love, heartbreak, and everything in between. The show revolves around classic songs from the 1920's and 30's, but also presents vintage retakes on modern favorites from Lily Allen to Madonna. "My cabaret is from an actor's perspective. I'm not interested in just singing pretty standards at the piano," explains Ms. Bergl. "I wanted to develop a complete piece with an arc and different characters: an evening of songs that are stories. At the end of the day, it's all about entertaining people."Ms. Bergl is also a passionate volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, and has built houses in Thailand, Borneo, Mississippi, and Washington DC. In November she will build alongside President and Rosalynn Carter in Haiti as part of the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project.
"Kidding on the Square" has played to sold out audiences in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, San Diego and Seattle.WHEN
