Teenage comedian David Thompson is appearing March 27 in Kids 'N Comedy at Metropolitan Room, 34 W 22nd Street, Chelsea, coinciding with the favorable rollout of his film debut in "WIN WIN" with Paul Giamatti (directed and written by Tom McCarthy).
"WIN WIN" is a film about a disheartened attorney (Paul Giamatti), who volunteers as a high school wrestling coach and stumbles across a star athlete named Kyle (Alex Shaffer), a scruffy teen rebel on the run from a broken home. David Thompson plays Kyle's best friend, Stemler, a skinny and petrified nerd, who is Kyle's polar opposite: as clueless on the mat as Kyle is outstanding, but who nonetheless decides to face off with a wrestler who resembles Darth Vader in both looks and ferocity.
"WIN WIN," which opened March 18, is now playing at The Angelika and Lincoln Plaza and will be expanding into additional theaters this weekend.
Thompson is a member of the troupe of Kids 'N Comedy, which numbers about 15 young artists. The organization is New York's leading presenter of young comic talent and presents a fortnightly comedy series at Gotham Comedy Club (the March 27 installment, however, is at the nearby Metropolitan Room due to a scheduling conflict). Each program features a selection of six or seven stand-up comedians, ages twelve to twenty, from Kids 'N Comedy's troupe of 15 young artists, plus a few new faces. Each performer has written his/her own routine and performs before a mixed audience of kids and adults. Master of Ceremonies is Australian-born comedian David Smithyman.
Thompson lives in Westchester and is a junior at Walter Panas High School, where he wrestles. The son of a speech pathologist and an engineer, his hobbies are Wrestling, Skateboarding and Drumming. He speaks some Spanish and a little bit of Hebrew. His passions are acting, comedy and eating. He appears reguarly at Kids 'N Comedy and has taken stage in its January 30 and February 27 shows this year.
