Darren Williams Set to Perform 'Not The Boy Next Door: The Peter Allen Songbook' At Met Room

Darren Wiliams returns to the Metropolitan Room at Gotham with his show, "Not the Boy Next Door: The Peter Allen Songbook," for two shows only. Dennis Buck will be musical director with Ray Kilday on bass and Ray Grappone on percussion.

For this engagement Mr. Williams will sing crowd-pleasing show-stoppers like "I Go To Rio," "Arthur's Theme," "I Honestly Love You" and "Don't Cry Out Loud" as well as lesser-known songs from the prolific Peter Allen songbook.

Sadly, Peter Allen, died of complications from AIDS in 1992 at age 48. His multi-faceted career as a songwriter/entertainer took him from humble beginnings in Australia to selling out the 20pxst arenas in the world, including Radio City Music Hall, where he even danced with The Rockettes and rode a camel. Television appearances and numerous original iconic songs dominated his career for years and are still revered by audiences and singers around the world today. A showman like no other, Peter Allen broke barriers and left a mark that was incomparable.

In this show, Mr. Williams, who has often been compared to Allen, will bring night club entertaining to a new level with his unique brand of rafter-raising delivery and openness with a lyric that is compelling.

The concert will take place on Monday, February 15 at 7pm and Wednesday, February 17 at 7:30pm. The Metropolitan Room at Gotham is located at 34 West 22nd Street. There will be a $20 music fee and a two-drink minimum. Reservations: (212) 206 0440. 

With the unique ability to sing everything from pop to opera, Darren Willams has captivated audiences with his Aussie charisma, good looks and soaring vocal range. Well known for his widely acclaimed show, "Poperatic," Mr. Williams has been repeatedly singled out down under as one of Australia's finest live performers. Consequently, he has been honored with the Peter Allen Australian Variety Entertainer of the Year Award and named Best Male Vocalist by his peers at the prestigious MO Awards - Australia's top honors for excellence in live entertainment. To date, he has received five MO Awards and two ACE Awards (Australian Club Entertainment Awards) for Outstanding Male Vocal Performer.
