Returning to Birdland Jazz Club for an impressive eighth engagement, Broadway and concert stage star Daniel Reichard will headline the brand new Birdland Theater with his brand new solo engagement, Summer Playlist on August 23, 24, and 25. Reichard, best known for his celebrated performance as Bob Gaudio in the Original Broadway Cast of Jersey Boys, will present an eclectic collection of songs, drawing from multiple decades and genres of music.
"When I was younger, I used to make mix tapes with dual cassette players," Reichard recalls. "I would even record my own voice in between songs with a radio show personae, performing comic bits and setting up the next song. The days of mix tapes have gone by, but we are still making playlists on our phones and our computers. For my show at Birdland Theater, I am going to present my own LIVE playlist for the audience, highlighting my adventures and musical obsessions during the summer of 2018. This is a memorable New York City evening in the making."
The program will feature songs from various genres including Broadway, 1960's rock, 1970's folk, 1980's new wave, and contemporary radio. For fans of musicals or pop, for homebodies or party animals, for nostalgics or this show strives to uplift spirits with heartwarming stories, high-energy musical arrangements and a full band. Acclaimed arranger Jesse Vargas, Reichard's longtime collaborator, will musically direct.
