High-Camp Parody To Feature Nuns Played by Men in Drag, A Real-Life Hunk of a Holy Ghost, and Full Frontal Nudity! DRAGNESS OF GOD: And The Naked Holy Ghost At International CringeFest '09

The biggest hit from the 2005 Orlando International Fringe Festival DRAGNESS OF GOD: And The Naked Holy Ghost will be presented in the Grand Theatre at The Producers Club as part of International CringeFest '09.

Award winning playwright Michael Wanzie dishes up a hysterical parody of the hit Broadway play (Geraldine Page, Elizabeth Ashley, Amanda Plumber) and the 1985 film (Jane Fonda, Ann Bancroft, Meg Tilly) AGNES OF GOD by John Pielmeier, which tells the story of a novice nun who gives birth and insists that the infant (found dead) was the result of a virgin conception. A psychiatrist and the Mother Superior of the convent clash during the resulting investigation.

In Wanzie's satirical send-up of this most serious subject matter, men in drag play all the women. As the psychiatric investigation progresses, it is discovered that Agnes is actually the bastard son of Mother Superior who raised the boy as a female so he could remain in the convent - making the birth even more mysterious. Or is it miraculous? As the play unfolds the contentious relationship between Mother Superior and Dr. Livingston gives way to shared experiences with everything from cigarettes and LSD to liquor, Quaaludes, ecstasy and eventually a lesbian love affair. In the meantime Agnes is swept off HIS feet by a very real, very naked stud-of-a-holy-ghost.

Reviews from premiere production at Orlando International Fringe Festival 2005:

"A raunchy 45 minute parody...not for the faint hearted or the easily shocked"?- Elizabeth Maupin, The Orlando Sentinel

Well, the elections are over and Michael Wanzie can return to giving the Fringe what he's best at: catty, campy drag that delivers the goods...His DRAGNESS OF GOD And The Naked Holy Ghost." - Al Pergante, Orlando Weekly

"The latest creation from Michael Wanzie, DRAGNESS, was the winner of the 2005 Orlando International Fringe Festival's Audience Picks Award for the most tickets sold at the festival." - Watermark

?"Hilarious! Playwright Michael Wanzie defies you not to laugh at things you know you shouldn't. Wanzie wins...The Audience is convulsed in laughter (whenever they are not audibly gasping)...It's no holds barred comedy and nobody writes it better than Wanzie" - Michael Freeman, The Reporter
