Two duos, both with one trumpet
Since 2004 TIN/BAG, the bi-coastal duo of California trumpeter Kris Tiner and New York guitarist Mike Baggetta, has been dealing with a music that is spare, ethereal, and highly exploratory. Both are among a generation of young creative musicians contributing original new music and pushing a re-examination of the roles and possibilities of their instruments. Their performance is presented, in part, by a grant from The American Composer's Forum.
"Excellent... trumpeter Kris Tiner and guitarist Mike Baggetta explore abstract yet jazz-derived realms of expansive lyricism and liquid melody."
- Time Out New York
"Radiant... there's an open, intensely emotional quality to the duo's playing... spare, haunting, with hints of modernist avant garde gestures."
- The Wire (UK)
Kris Tiner is active on the West Coast as a trumpet player, composer, and improviser. His music has been described as "extraordinarily inventive" by Signal to Noise, and Cadence Magazine calls him "a really compelling voice."
