The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel is pleased to announce the Café Carlyle's spring 2016 season, which features the venue debuts of Broadway legend Chita Rivera, Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Steven Page, actress/singerRumer Willis and Welsh superstar Katherine Jenkins; as well as the return of audience favorites Megan Hilty, Alexa Ray Joel, Herb Alpert & Lani Hall and Lena Hall.
Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Steven Page makes his Café Carlyle debut, March 22-April 2. The two-week run titled Steven Page - Heal Thyself: Past, Present and Future will include songs from Steven's new album, Heal Thyself Pt. 1: Instinct. The set will also include songs spanning his entire 20-year career as a solo artist and as a co-founder of Barenaked Ladies. At Café Carlyle, he'll be accompanied by guitarist and co-writer Craig Northey and cellist Kevin Fox.
Actress/singer Rumer Willis makes her Café Carlyle debut, April 5-9. Rumer Willis began her acting career as a child, starring with her mother Demi Moore in the major motion pictures Striptease and Now and Then. She most recently won Season 20 of ABC's hit show, Dancing with the Stars, and immediately after, was a star in Chicago on Broadway. Ms. Willis is currently recording her debut album under the guidance of legendary music icon Linda Perry.
Welsh superstar Katherine Jenkins OBE makes her Café Carlyle debut with Viva La Diva, April 12-16. Katherine Jenkins is one of the world's most prolific classical crossover singers, having released ten chart-topping studio albums since being signed to Universal Classics. Over the course of her esteemed career, she has toured and recorded with the likes of Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, Jose Carreras, David Foster, Dame Kiri te Kanawa, Bryn Terfyl, Rolando Villazon, Juan Diego Florez & Il Divo. At Café Carlyle, she will be joined by music director Gerard Steichen. Two-time Drama Desk nominee Ryan Silverman (Chicago, Phantom, Side Show) will make a special guest appearance.
Broadway legend Chita Rivera makes her Café Carlyle debut with An Evening of My Favorite Songs, for a two-week engagement, April 19-30. An accomplished and versatile actress/singer/dancer, Chita Rivera has won two Tony Awards as Best Leading Actress in a Musical and has received eight additional Tony nominations for an exceptional 10 Tony nominations. Her career is highlighted by starring roles in Bye Bye Birdie, The Rink (Tony Award), Chicago, Jerry's Girls, Kiss of the Spider Woman (Tony Award), The Visit and the original Broadway casts of Guys and Dolls, Can-Can, Seventh Heaven and Mr. Wonderful. Additionally, she has toured in Born Yesterday, The Rose Tattoo, Call Me Madam, Threepenny Opera, Sweet Charity, Kiss Me Kate, Zorba and Can-Can with The Rockettes. Regarding her upcoming Café Carlyle residency, Chita says: "I'm thrilled to be finally performing at the famed CaféCarlyle." At The Carlyle, Chita Rivera will be joined by music director Michael Croiter (percussion and guitar), associate music director Michael Patrick Walker (piano), Jim Donica (bass) and Dan Willis (reeds).
Fresh off her Broadway run in the critical hit Noises Off, acclaimed star of stage and screen Megan Hilty makes her return to Café Carlyle, May 3-14. Of her previous engagement at the Café, Stephen Holden of The New York Timesexclaimed, "Ms. Hilty projected the attitude of a frisky, fun-loving gal... she reveled in the pleasure of as big and loud a sound as she could muster." Megan Hilty will release a new live album, containing songs from her previous CaféCarlyle performances, this May.
Acclaimed singer-songwriter Alexa Ray Joel returns to Café Carlyle for her fifth engagement, May 17-28. Reviewing a previous engagement at the Café, The New York Times called Joel, daughter of music legend Billy Joel and supermodel Christie Brinkley, "a singer following her own heart," adding, "Her original work... is firmly grounded in a pop tradition in which streams converge, from gospel to Tin Pan Alley. The songs are bluntly melodic, lyrically direct and catchy." Since she was 15, Joel has been writing complete songs and complementing those songs with piano accompaniment, and writing poetry. At Café Carlyle, Alexa Ray Joel will perform original material in addition to giving her signature style to a set of popular songs.
Trumpet icon Herb Alpert and Grammy Award-winning vocalist/producer Lani Hall return to Café Carlyle, May 31-June 11. Lani Hall started her career as the lead singer of Sergio Mendes' breakthrough group, Brasil 66. Herb Alpert's legendary career includes five decades of unprecedented breakthroughs as a musician, painter, sculptor, and record executive and philanthropist. In the past two years alone, he won his ninth GRAMMY for 2013's Steppin' Out and received the National Medal of Arts from President Obama. Come Fly With Me, the latest album on his own label, Herb Alpert Presents, is some of the best work of Herb Alpert's career, rivaling his classic Tijuana Brass output. In the past year, Alpert composed seven original songs for the album, drawn from a diversity of musical influences, with inventive arrangements and lush orchestrations. His stirring new material is wonderfully complimented by fresh interpretations of some of the most indelible melodies of the 20th century.
Tony winner and Grammy nominee Lena Hall returns to Café Carlyle, June 14-25. Lena Hall just completed touring the US and Canada with Josh Groban on the Stages tour and ended her critically acclaimed run starring as Yitzhak in the hit Broadway revival of Hedwig and the Angry Inch for which she won the 2014 Tony Award for Featured Actress in a Musical. Prior to Hedwig, she starred as Nicola in the Tony Award winning musical Kinky Boots. Lena sold out her solo shows at the legendary Café Carlyle, Feinsteins / 54 Below and Feinsteins San Francisco and her live album "Sin & Salvation: Live At the Carlyle" can be found on iTunes, CD Baby, Amazon, et al.
Throughout the season, Woody Allen will continue to perform Monday nights with the Eddy Davis New Orleans Jazz Band.
