Bob Bayne, Anna Lively and Lively Entertainment will present a concert version of the 1987 musical Romance/Romance.
Featuring music by Keith Herrmann and book and lyrics Barry Harman, this musical shares two stories linked only by the common theme of love. The first, The Little Comedy, is based on a short story by Arthur Schnitzler and explores the budding relationship between two people who have adopted personas other than their own.
Summer Share, the second act, based on Jules Renard's 1898 play Le pain de ménage, is updated to the 1980s and set in The Hamptons, where two married couples are spending the season in a rented cottage and find themselves gradually progressing from harmless flirtation to the serious possibility of an illicit affair.
Romance/Romance opened Off-Broadway in 1987. Following positive reviews and audience response, it transferred to the Helen Hayes Theatre in 1988 where it ran for 297 performances and was nominated for five Tony Awards including Best Score and Best Musical.
Ethan Paulini will direct with musical direction by Christopher Denny. The cast will feature Anna Lively, Mark Bradley Miller, Onyie Nwachukwu and Tim Quartier.
Performances begin October 7th at 5pm at Don't Tell Mama (343 W. 46th St.) with performances continuing on October 8th at 2pm, 12th at 7pm and 14th at 8pm. For tickets and information: 212.757.0788.
