Erich Steinbock (Managing Director) is pleased to welcome back world-renowned baritone and Tony Award-winner (South Pacific) Paulo Szot to the legendary Café Carlyle for a two-week return engagement. Beginning Tuesday, February 1 (and playing through Saturday, February 12*), Mr. Szot, who made both his New York cabaret and Café Carlyle debut last fall, will present "An Evening with Paulo Szot," a program of songs culled from the Great American Songbook, the worlds of Broadway and Jazz, as well as tunes from his native Brazil. He will once again be supported by The Bob Albanese Trio.

The Café Carlyle is located in The Carlyle Hotel - 35 East 76th Street at Madison Avenue.

"An Evening with Paulo Szot" plays Tuesdays through Fridays at 8:45PM and Saturdays at 8:45PM and 10:45PM. There is a $75 music charge ($40, bar) for the Tuesday-Thursday performances and an $85 music charge ($50, bar) for the Friday and Saturday performances. Dinner (required) is served from 6:30PM. *Mr. Szot will also present a special St. Valentine's Day performance on Sunday, February 13th at 8:45PM. There is a $100 music charge ($50, bar). BIOGRAPHY
Paulo Szot is one of the most acclaimed and versatile baritones in the world having won international acclaim both as an opera singer and as an actor. He is currently portraying Emile De Beque in the Broadway revival of South Pacific for which he received the 2008 Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critic's Circle Award for Best Actor in a Musical.

Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the son of Polish immigrants, Mr. Szot has appeared with many major opera companies throughout the world both in Europe, the U.S., and in his native Brazil.

Paulo Szot continued to appear in South Pacific throughout the 2009/2010 season, also made his highly acclaimed Metropolitan Opera debut in a new production of The Nose by Shostakovich conducted by Valery Gergiev. He also made his Carnegie Hall debut with the New York Pops Orchestra in a program of Lerner and Lowe. During the 2010/2011 season Paulo Szot will make his debut at Dallas Opera in the title role of Don Giovanni followed by his Paris Opera debut as Guglielmo in Cosi Fan Tutte. He will return to the Metropolitan Opera as Escamillo in Carmen, make his debut at the Festival de Aix-en-Provence as Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, and will appear at Carnegie Hall in concert with Deborah Voigt and Collegiate Chorale.

In addition to his performances in South Pacific, during the 2008-2009 season Mr. Szot made his New York Philharmonic debut in a concert conducted by Marvin Hamlisch appearing alongside Liza Minnelli, and he debuted at the Ravinia Festival in concert with Kelli O'Hara. He appeared in concert in the Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center as part of the American Songbook Series. Mr. Szot appeared in the 2007-2008 season as Marcello in La Bohème at Opera National de Bordeaux and also made his debut in Antwerp at De Vlaamse Opera as the Count in Le nozze di Figaro.

Paulo Szot made his U.S. debut in the 2003-2004 season as Escamillo in Carmen at the New York City Opera and covered the title role of Don Giovanni at the Metropolitan Opera. He sang the role of Don Giovanni with Michigan Opera Theater that season, and then made his European debut in 2004 in the title role of Eugene Onegin in Marseille receiving high praise from the French press. Mr. Szot returned to the New York City Opera in the 2004-2005 season as the Count in Le nozze di Figaro and also returned to the Met that season to cover Figaro in that same opera. He appeared as Escamillo in Carmen in Palm Beach that season and then debuted at the Teatro Municipal in Santiago in the same role.

The 2005-2006 season brought Paulo Szot's debut with the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto as Escamillo. He returned to Marseille to appear as Aeneus in Dido and Aeneus. He also appeared that season with the Jacksonville Symphony and returned to Marseille as Guglielmo in Cosi Fan Tutte. Mr. Szot made his debut at Opéra de Bordeaux that season in the title role of Don Giovanni. He returned to the New York City Opera in the 2006-2007 season as Belcore in a new production of L'elisir d'amore staged by Jonathan Miller and appeared in Maria Golovin at the Spoleto Festival in Italy and in Le nozze di Figaro in Boston. He debuts this season at the Liceo in Barcelona in Le portrait de Manon and appears in Nice in Cosi Fan Tutte.
