Cabaret Photographers: Conor Weiss ImageConor Weiss is actually a member of the cabaret community.  He has worked in the clubs and walked among the artists.  That is a blessing that informs his work behind the camera because he loves them.   He has an invested interest in raising them to the light, and in making them look good.  He has a passion for them and a passion for his photography, which I had been enjoying as his Facebook friend, seeing the photos he was posting, just for love.

So I was excited when Conor expressed an interest in coming to work with Broadway World

Cabaret.  When making art, nothing wins out more than passion.  Even the least experienced artist will be more interesting to me if their passion for the art is weighty.  Conor's passion for the art, for the people, and for their art form is considerable, and it shows in his photos.  Conor wants to capture that most essential moment when the emotion on the performer's face marries with the proficiency of the lighting designer, when the music of the performance meets the intensity of the body's understanding of the lyric, and when the people sharing the stage become as one in the act of presenting their story to their patrons.  Conor's humanity shows in every photo he makes because, in the moment when he made that shot, he captured the artists' humanity.

The photos in this article are all my personal favorites by the artist.  --- SM

 About Conor Weiss

Cabaret Photographers: Conor Weiss ImageConor Weiss is a NY-based actor/director and occasional stage manager who has been around the Cabaret scene since 1994 - 2003 when he first joined the staff as a technical director at Judy's' and at Danny's Skylight room. During these years and the years after the closing of Judy's and Danny's, he subbed in at many other clubs at one time or another. He has always had a deep love for the American Songbook and for cabaret. Between his time in the booth and time in the audience has probably been present for a few thousand cabaret shows over the last 30 years and looks forward to more!
