As a founding member of the New York Dolls and in a prolific solo career, David Johansen has been a seminal force in rock and roll, influencing countless singers and bands to this day. Buster Poindexter, Johansen's celebrated alter ego showcases his elegant crooning through R&B ballads. His late '80s single "Hot Hot Hot" made him a staple on radio charts, MTV and the NYC club scene. Poindexter's previous one-night only engagements at the Café have been sellouts. The audience favorite is in the midst of his limited five-night engagement at Café Carlyle, running through October 25. Due to overwhelming demand, an additional show has just been added to the residency. Buster Poindexter's encore performance will take place on Saturday, October 25 at 10:45pm (late show).
The Hollywood Reporter praised his Café Carlyle performance from earlier this year: "Dressed in a tie-less tuxedo and wearing glasses under an impressively tall pompadour, he seemed born to a room as intimate as this one.... the singer displayed a record music nerd's winning enthusiasm for introducing friends to songs they haven't heard."
Poindexter recently joined Arcade Fire at Brooklyn's Barclays Center as a surprise guest to perform his hit "Hot Hot Hot". Watch video from that show here.
Performances will take place through Saturday. Reservations made by phone at 212.744.1600 are $70 ($120 for premium seating, $50 for bar seating) on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday (late show); and $80 ($130 for premium seating, $65 for bar seating) on Friday and Saturday.
