54 Below, Broadway's Supper Club, is proud to have THE CIVILIANS present A Pretty Filthy Evening on Dec. 2, 2014.
THE CIVILIANS, New York's Obie award-winning investigative theater company, known for its firsthand investigations and research on topical subjects that can often be subversive or controversial, has curated this one-time-only event offering a sneak preview into their upcoming musical about the porn industry, Pretty Filthy. This intimate and eclectic evening showcases Pretty Filthy's shamelessly sexy songs performed by some of the biggest talents from the New York cabaret and Broadway worlds.
Performers include Bryce Pinkham (Gentleman's Guide..., Love's Labor's Lost, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), Lady Rizo (Grammy winner 2010, Toast of Edinburgh 2012, London Cabaret Award 2013), Steve Rosen (Peter and the Starcatcher, CQ/CX, Guys and Dolls), Alyse Alan Louis (Mamma Mia!, NERDS), Marrick Smith (Elbow..., Fun Home), Shakina Nayfack, Jennifer Morris (You Better Sit Down, I am Nobody's Lunch, Gone Missing), Jeanine Serralles (Maple and Vine, Stunning, The Glass Cage), and Emily Young (Cymbeline, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson).
This is your chance to hear songs about the wild and woolly world of porn from our upcoming musical Pretty Filthy, composed by Michael Friedman (The Fortress of Solitude, Love's Labor's Lost, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson). Also, candid, eye-opening interviews from our research, living with porn stars, and eating sushi with porn stars. Come experience uncensored musical theater performers like you've never seen them. Sounds like the beginnings of a perfect date night.
THE CIVILIANS are well known for their one-of-a-kind cabaret performances, and can often be found at Joe's Pub creatively weaving interviews, musical performances, and audience participation in their ongoing series Let Me Ascertain You. Many friends of THE CIVILIANS who are top performers in New York City often come out to play for these events, such as Ana Gasteyer, Rachel Dratch, Celia Keenan-Bolger, and Ben Walker, so there's no telling who may show!
