Broadway's George Marcy & Carol Lawrence Team Up for New Cabaret Show at Don't Tell Mama, Begin. Today

It's one thing for a dancer over 40 to do a cabaret show. It's quite another for a dancer over 80 to attempt one. But that's exactly what still spry 83-year-old song and dance man George Marcy is going to do--tapping his way over to Don't Tell Mama for the second time in three years--when he takes the stage (today September 23 and 29, both at 8pm) for his new show, I Wish I Were Twins. Marcy's latest cabaret effort is being director by famed Broadway Musical star and Marcy's good friend Carol Lawrence. The Musical Director/Pianist is Christine Sutin, with Boots Maleson on bass, and AaRon Russell on drums.

Marcy played the role of "Bernado" opposite Chita Rivera's "Anita" in the original Broadway production of West Side Story in 1957 and subsequently played the role again for return engagements of the show, more than 850 performances. Marcy also appeared in the original Broadway productions of Damn Yankees (1955), Carnival! (1961) and Billy (1969), and played Conrad Birdie in out-of-New York productions of Bye, Bye, Birdie (1967). Last December, Marcy received a "Legacy" Award from the non-profit support-group Dancers Over 40.

Carol Lawrence created the role of "Maria" in the Leonard Bernstein/Jerome Robbins Broadway classic, West Side Story (for which she received a Tony nomination) and went on to star in numerous other Broadway productions including: Saratoga, Subways Are for Sleeping, I Do, I Do and Kiss of the Spider Woman.
