Nominated by BroadwayWorld.com as "Best Female Debut" for her 2012 Metropolitan Room cabaret show, Fade to Blues, Billie Williams will be bringing an exciting new show to the Iridium Jazz Club tonight, May 14 at 8PM. In The Sound of Blue, this powerful vocalist will celebrate more than six decades of classic Blues from Robert Johnson to Robert Cray.

As a teenager growing up in the Boston area, Williams co-founded the country swing band Columbus East. She went on the sing with the rock band Mezz, and then with the 8-piece R&B band City Edition, and during those years she shared the stage with R&B legends Wilson Pickett and Sam & Dave. The Boston Globe called Billie's performance with City Edition " . . . riveting . . . she sang of joy and heartache with equal conviction."

When the beautiful blonde Williams arrived in New York City in her late 20s, she landed a gig as lead vocalist with blues band The Lenny Nelson Project. After she gave birth to her daughter, she took a bunch of years off from performing, but got back in the scene a few years ago doing cabaret workshops and a show Sentimental Journeys, in which she appeared with actress/singer Jean Tafler and vocalist Tracy Toler.

Williams' new show, presented by ScoBar Entertainment and produced by BroadwayWorld.com reviewer Stephen Hanks, will feature a six-piece band, including Danny Blume as Musical Director, guitarist, Jerome Korman on piano, Tony Allen on drums, Double-Z on bass, Birch Johnson on trombone, Ken Hitchcock on tenor sax.

Billie Williams and The Sound of Blue will be performed at the Iridium (1650 Broadway and 51st Street) on Tuesday, May 14 at 8pm pm Cover is $25 ($20 for MAC members) and there is a $15 food/drink minimum. For reservations, call 212-582-2121.
