On Monday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Don't Tell Mama at 343 West 46th Street in NYC, several young past and present performers from Broadway will join forces in a benefit cabaret to raise money and show support for the victims, survivors and those suffering as a result of the mass shooting in Orlando this month. The benefit is entitled Broadway Kids for Orlando: All You Need is Love. All of the proceeds will be donated to the GLBT Center of Central Florida.
As young people, these kids feel that the best way to be heard is to sing and share their gifts to spread their message to end gun violence. They also aim to show support and solidarity with the community in Orlando. Fourteen year old Sam Poon ( The King and I, MacBeth, Billy Elliot, Les Miserables) , the originator of the event says "my generation is the next generation to shape the future. We have the opportunity to get our message out now; so people's minds can be set. And then we can have a better tomorrow."
The line up includes performers with credits from many shows including: A Christmas Story, Annie, Beauty and the Beast, Billy Elliot, Elf the Musical, Fiddler on the Roof, Fish in the Dark, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Kinky Boots, Les Miserables, Macbeth, Mary Poppins, Matilda, Runaways, School of Rock, Shrek, South Pacific, The People in the Picture, and Tuck Everlasting.
The program will include a variety of solo, duet and group acts. Songs will range from standard Broadway to classic rock and pop. There will also be a special tribute to the victims from Orlando.
