Blue Note Jazz Festival Welcomes Luba Mason to Subrosa Jazz Club Tonight

LUBA MASON - the music star who recently appeared at Jazz at Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis and his Orchestra - will debut at SUBROSA JAZZ CLUB as part of the Blue Note Jazz Festival tonight, June 18 at 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM with her concert Mixtura.

Subrosa is a new music venue focusing on Latin and World music from the owners of the legendary club The Blue Note. Luba's trademarked blend of different musical currents, Mixtura is a mix of songs and stylisic elements from the worlds of jazz, pop, Broadway, Latin and International music. Her recent concerts include Panama Jazz Festival - in which she opened for Wayne Shorter, Danilo Perez and Chucho Valdez - in addition to Havana's 40th International Music Festival and Costa Rica's International Music Festival.

The Subrosa evening will include the work of diverse songwriters such as Van Morrison ("Moondance"), Cole Porter ("Love For Sale"), Kander & Ebb ("All That Jazz") and Lou Reed ("Pale Blue Eyes"), in addition to original songs from her Brazilian jazz album Krazy Love. The evening will feature musical director and arranger Felipe Fournier on vibes, in addition to Sara Caswell on violin, Rafael Rosa on guitar, Dan Martinez on bass and Joel Mateo on drums.

LUBA MASON - native New Yorker, first generation Slovak American and wife of 14-time Grammy-winning Latin superstar Ruben Blades - has released two critically-acclaimed albums: Krazy Love (Sunnyside Records), debuting her impressive songwriting skills executing in a cool, Brazilian style featuring all-stars Jimmy Haslip of Yellowjackets), Renato Neto (Prince), world-renowned flautist Hubert Laws and Ruben Blades, and Collage (PS Classics), a beautiful marriage of Latin, pop, jazz and poetry. Luba has been called "a powerfully emotional song interpreter" (All Music Guide), blessed with "a celestial voice (Los Angeles Times), who's "a fiery spark that ignites onstage" (Houston Voice).

In addition to her solo albums, Luba was a guest vocalist on Blades' 2003 Grammy-Award winning CD Mundo. In the U.S., she has performed at Catalina Bar & Grill, Yoshi's, Blue Note, Iridium, among others. A graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts (Drama), Luba has performed in eight Broadway shows including Chicago, Jekyll & Hyde and How To Succeed In Business... Some featured dramatic roles on TV include "Forever," "Person Of Interest" and "Law & Order." Luba is the recipient of the 2013 New York Musical Theater Festival (NYMF) Award for "Outstanding Individual Performance" and the 2015 Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Award nominee for "Best Featured Actress in a Musical" for the Off-Broadway musical Pretty Flilthy - for which she was hailed as "outstanding" by The New York Times, "deliciously droll" by The Hollywood Reporter and "straight up and affecting" by The New York Daily News.
