Birdland will kick-off their great week of programming with Karrin Allyson, Nellie McKay, Victoria Shaw "Under the Covers," and more!

March 4 (Monday) at 7:00PM

George Abud & Katrina Lenk: Swung

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that Tony winner Katrina Lenk will join forces with her friend and former cast member from The Band's Visit, George Abud in a one-night only concert called "Swung." In a celebration of their musical friendship, Broadway pals George Abud and Katrina Lenk meld together an evening of smoky jazz and swinging bebop. Exploring the music of the heart, they will dive into sizzling and lush tunes from the likes of Nina Simone, Thelonius Monk, Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, and Rosemary Clooney. Together with a 5-piece band under musical direction by Andrei Strizek, with James Abud on guitar, Alexandra Eckhardt on bass, Sam Sadigursky on reeds and Allison Miller on drums, this will be a dreamy, madcap soirée of talk and tunes.

Jim Caruso's Cast Party

Jim Caruso's Cast Party is a wildly popular weekly soiree that brings a sprinkling of Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the legendary Birdland in New York City every Monday night. It's a cool cabaret night-out enlivened by a hilariously impromptu variety show. Showbiz superstars, backed by Steve Doyle on bass, Billy Stritch on piano and Daniel Glass on drums, hit the stage alongside up-and-comers, serving up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle.

Nellie McKay at the Birdland Theater

Idiosyncratic vocalist and song stylist Nellie McKay is equally comfortable on a Broadway stage (Old Hats, Threepenny Opera), in concert, in films, and on the small screen, where her music has been featured in Boardwalk Empire, Weeds, Grey's Anatomy and other popular shows. For this engagement Nellie celebrates the release of her 7th album, "Sister Orchid," the second collaboration with famed Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick.

Fleur Seule "A Tribute to Peggy Lee" at the Birdland Theater

Fleur Seule Jazz Band takes you on the journey of singing sensation, Peggy Lee. Songbird Allyson Briggs will start with her big band days, explore the lost radio recordings, and give you a "Fever!" before the night is through. Fleur Seule is an authentic 1940s Jazz Band based in Manhattan, known for creating nights of sophistication, glamour, and irresistibly swinging music.

David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band

Inspired by the noble jazz pioneers Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton and their colleagues, David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band breathes life and passion into America's own great art form. Now in its 14th year of residency at Birdland, the weekly post-workday engagement is the city's best musical bargain! Tuba player David Ostwald leads a rotating lineup that features talents such as clarinetist Anat Cohen, trombonist/vocalist Wycliffe Gordon, pianist Ehud Asherie, drummer Marion Felder and more!

Victoria Shaw "Under the Covers" at the Birdland Theater

Birdland Theater is proud to announce the return of singer/songwriter Victoria Shaw in "Under The Covers." Victoria's very special guests will be singer/songwriters Beth Nielsen Chapman and Marcus Hummon. Please note: This show is being captured for a future PBS broadcast and OTT Streaming. "Under The Covers" has become a favorite recurring highlight at Birdland, featuring a wide variety of top-selling songwriters and musical acts from across the pop, rock and country worlds, and offering intimate acoustic performances of huge hit songs - along with the little-known stories behind them.

Yvette Norwood-Tiger at the Birdland Theater

Yvette Norwood-Tiger is an international jazz vocalist, recording artist, songwriter, vocal coach, The Recording Academy (GRAMMY) voting member, and founder/director of the Palm Beach International Jazz Festival Organization. Her CDs, A'LA ELLA! and whY NoT... Love, Peace, Joy, Jazz, features music from great composers such as Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, and the Gershwins. Yvette's general repertoire includes jazz standards, bebop, and Latin jazz. She performs with vocally clean and pure interpretations of the Great American Songbook, while emphasizing intonation and storytelling. Yvette performs jazz songs in six languages including English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Xhosa.

The Birdland Big Band

Founded by drummer and musical director Tommy Igoe, the Birdland Big Band features the finest musicians in New York! Adam Birnbaum at the Birdland Theater

Adam Birnbaum is emerging as one of the top young voices in jazz piano. Since arriving on the New York scene in 2003, he has become increasingly prominent performing in clubs and festivals around the world. A diverse performer, Adam regularly tours with The Al Foster Quartet and Darcy James Argue's Secret Society as well as frequently performing with the likes of Cecile McLorin Salvant, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, and many other ensembles.

Eric Comstock

Singer/pianist Eric Comstock has been called "a song's best friend," and the jazz and pop songbooks are in great hands when he is onstage at Birdland. Whether the song is by Rodgers and Hart or Ellington and Strayhorn, Paul Simon or Bob Dylan, you'll hear the lyric as if for the first time. Joining Eric will be eminent bassist/composer Sean Smith -- in all, a perfect winter Saturday supper!

Brian Newman & the New Alchemy Jazz Orchestra

Singer/Trumpet Player Brian Newman & the New Alchemy Jazz Orchestra will perform originals, jazz standards and classics from the Great American Songbook. This 18-piece band will take you for a ride through an eclectic mix of composers and sounds from the past and present and future of jazz music. Jazz isn't what it used to be, but for trumpeter and vocalist Brian Newman, that's entirely the point. American trumpet legends like Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie and Lee Morgan are already a part of music history. They're revered and loved in the way they should be. The New Alchemy Jazz Orchestra is an exciting 17-piece big band co-led by some of New York City's most inspiring young talent: John Lake (trumpet), Mike Sailors (trumpet), Steve Kortyka (sax), and Danny Jonokuchi (trumpet and conductor).

David DeJesus Quartet at the Birdland Theater

Saxophonist David DeJesus has been on the New York City Jazz scene since the late 90's and has established himself as a key player in numerous bands in various genres. In Jazz, David has performed with the Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, the Mingus Big Band, the Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Stars, and Jimmy Heath's Big Band along with many others. In Latin Jazz and Salsa, David has shared the stage with Ruben Blades, Larry Harlow, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Artro O'Farrill and Tito Rodriguez Jr. Currently, David is the leader of the Birdland Big Band, a member of the Grammy nominated Bobby Sanabria Big Band, and the Legendary Ron Carter's Great Big Band. The quartet includes David DeJesus (saxophone), Donald Vega (piano), Doug Weiss (bass) and Chris Smith (drums).

The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra

Grammy Award winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill -- leader of the "first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz" (NY Times) -- was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O'Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley's Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte.
