Birdland will kick-off their great week of programming with Benny Green, Clint Holmes Celebrates the Jazz of Sammy David Jr., Joe Alterman, and more!

April 1 (Monday) at 7:00PM

Everybody Rise: A Resistance Cabaret

"Everybody Rise! A Resistance Cabaret" is an evening of classic show tunes all lethally rewritten for the age of Trump. This hilarious bouquet of parodies springs from the fiendish mind of Joe Keenan, an Emmy-winning "Frasier" writer and novelist (Blue Heaven, My Lucky Star). The midterms brought us a Blue Wave, and we'll celebrate with laughter, fresh hope, and a raft of great show tunes you'll never hear the same way again.

Georgia Middleman and Gary Burr at the Birdland Theater

Married for seven years, Gary and Georgia perform for audiences all over the country. With harmony and humor, they weave an evening to remember featuring their original songs as well as the stories behind them.

Jim Caruso's Cast Party

Jim Caruso's Cast Party is a wildly popular weekly soiree that brings a sprinkling of Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the legendary Birdland in New York City every Monday night. It's a cool cabaret night-out enlivened by a hilariously impromptu variety show. Showbiz superstars, backed by Steve Doyle on bass, Billy Stritch on piano and Daniel Glass on drums, hit the stage alongside up-and-comers, serving up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle.

Larry Fuller Trio at the Birdland Theater

Since 2013 Fuller has led the Larry Fuller Trio. He presents a musical program rarely experienced live today, consistently praised for his emotive, swinging style, monster technique, and program versatility. From bop, to stride, to swing, to blues. With George DeLancey (Bass) and Pete Van Nostrand (Drums).

Benny Green

With the release of his 2018 album "Then and Now", Benny celebrates his 20th record release as bandleader, incorporating new textures into his classic piano-trio format and truly taking his place as a giant of modern bebop music. The acclaimed Benny Green Trio has performed at major clubs, festivals and concert halls around the world.

David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band

Inspired by the noble jazz pioneers Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton and their colleagues, David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band breathes life and passion into America's own great art form. Now in its 17th year of residency at Birdland, the weekly post-workday engagement is the city's best musical bargain! Tuba player David Ostwald leads a rotating lineup that features talents such as clarinetist Anat Cohen, trombonist/vocalist Wycliffe Gordon, pianist Ehud Asherie, drummer Marion Felder and more!

Clint Holmes at the Birdland Theater

Clint Holmes will celebrate "The Jazz of Sammy Davis, Jr." The concert will delve into Sammy's material from the early nightclub shows, to the Rat Pack days, to Broadway appearances. It will include Sammy hits like "I've Gotta Be Me," "Hey There," "Mr. Bojangles," "What Kind of Fool Am I," and "Smile." Having spent the last twenty years as one of Vegas's most successful entertainers, Holmes has, over the last several years, achieved tremendous acclaim with solo shows at Café Carlyle and Birdland in New York City.

Joe Alterman at the Birdland Theater

In addition to performances with Houston Person, Les McCann and his own trio, among others, Alterman has performed at many world-renowned venues including the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Birdland and New York's Blue Note, where Alterman has opened, many times, for Ramsey Lewis. Only 29 years old, Alterman has released four critically-acclaimed albums, his most recent being 2017's "Comin' Home To You."

Diane Marino

Diane Marino is to perform the music of her critically-acclaimed new release, "Soul Serenade - The Gloria Lynne Project." Diane will also perform selections from her previous CD's including songs from The Great American Song Book, Jazz Standards and Brazilian Jazz. With Don Aliquo (Sax), Ron Aprea (Alto Sax), Brian Poreschi (Trumpet), Rick Faulkner (Trombone), Doug Munro (Guitar), Neal Smith (Drums) and Frank Marino (Bass).

The Birdland Big Band

Founded by drummer and musical director Tommy Igoe, the Birdland Big Band features the finest musicians in New York! Joining Eric will be eminent bassist/composer Sean Smith -- in all, a perfect winter Saturday supper!

Gabrielle Stravelli "Pick Up My Pieces: The Music of Willie Nelson"

Award-winning vocalist Gabrielle Stravelli has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal following through her rich sound, original songs and unique take on material from the Great American Songbook as well as by a varied array of contemporary artists. She also toured the US promoting her new album, "Dream Ago," which received 5-stars from Downbeat Magazine and raves from The Huffington Post, Jazz Weekly and the LA Jazz Scene among others.

The Jive Aces at the Birdland Theater

Renowned worldwide for their high-energy spectacular showmanship, their viral video "Bring Me Sunshine" and for being the first live band to reach the final rounds of "Britain's Got Talent", The Jive Aces have firmly established themselves the UK's No.1 Jive & Swing band. The in-demand sextet average 300 shows a year and have worked with Van Morrison, Keely Smith and performed for HM the Queen. The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra

Grammy Award winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill -- leader of the "first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz" (NY Times) -- was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O'Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley's Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte.
