Birdland will kick-off their exciting month of programming with the following acts:

February 28- March 4 (Tuesday-Saturday) at 8:30PM & 11:00PM

John Pizzarelli Trio

John Pizzarelli charms audiences with his warmth, sense of humor and musical chops. Through his multi-faceted career as a jazz guitarist, vocalist and bandleader, the son of the legendary guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli and New Jersey native, has become one of the most recognizable faces and voices in contemporary jazz for his interpretations of classic standards, romantic ballads and the cool jazz flavor he brings to his performances and recordings. While maintaining a busy touring schedule, John also founded "Radio Deluxe with John Pizzarelli" a nationally syndicated radio program co-hosted with his wife, Broadway star Jessica Molaskey. On his recent CD, Pizzarelli put his signature spin on songs by Paul McCartney.

Charlto & the John di Martino Trio

John di Martino is a jazz pianist, arranger, producer and sought after musical director, based in New York City. He has been described as a "shape-shifter", for his creativity across musical genres. John has performed and recorded with David "Fat Head" Newman, Pat Martino, Houston Person and Taj Mahal.

March 4 (Saturday) at 6:00PM

Eric Comstock & Jay Leonhart

Pianist/singer, Eric Comstock, returns to Birdland with star bassist/songwriter, Jay Leonhart, for songs by everyone from George Gershwin to George Harrison. Their collaboration began with a recording several years ago, and Eric and Jay's CD "All Hart" went on to win an A+ in Entertainment Weekly. Since then, these two masters have played separately and together around the country and around the world. Join them at Birdland for a party where the music and the stories are equally great. Escape the August heat with some cool tunes at Birdland!

Karen Mason Celebrates the CD Release of "It's About Time"

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that Broadway/Cabaret star Karen Mason will celebrate her newest recording, "It's About Time," with a one-night only performance. Twelve-time MAC Award winner Karen Mason will be celebrating her new CD "It's About Time" with songs that include "A House Is Not A Home," "What Are You Doing The Rest of Your Life," "Everything's Coming Up Roses," and the title cut, "It's About Time," a glorious anthem of love and marriage equality, written by Mason's husband Paul Rolnick. (Rolnick is releasing his own CD of original material, "Shoot For The Moon," the title song of which is an Emmy-nominated song.) Tedd Firth will musical direct the evening.

Gary Burton and Mokoto Ozone Duets

If there is a single word that describes a typical Burton/Ozone concert, it would be virtuosity. They improvise on just about any kind of music from traditional jazz and contemporary jazz, to tango and classical themes. Both musicians are stunning performers, always pushing each other to new and greater heights.

Axel Tosca Laugart

It was a fore gone conclusion, that Pianist, Composer, Producer, Arranger Axel Tosca Laugart, was destine to be a musician. Born in Cuba to Cuban singer/folkloric songwriter Albert Tosca, and world renowned Cuban vocalist Xiomara Laugart, his musical influences were everywhere, and his fate was sealed. HIs debut release as a leader "AXEL TOSCA" is available on ALFI Records.

Kurt Rosenwinkel and Caipi CD Release Celebration

Kurt Rosenwinkel, the most influential and strikingly original guitarist-composer of his generation, takes a bold new musical direction with "Caipi," the debut release on his Heartcore records label in collaboration with Raz Daz Recordz. Ten years in the making, this ambitious and deeply personal project shows the influence of Brazilian music, rock, and jazz.

Borislav Strulev

World-renowned cellist Borislav Strulev has been fascinating audiences on some of the world's most prestigious stages since his U.S. debut at the Kennedy Center in 1993 arranged on initiative of Isaac Stern, Former World Bank President James Wolfensohn and Byron Janis.

2016 MAC Award winners for Major Duo Artists of the Year, married musical partners Eric & Barbara come home to Birdland with a set full of rhythm & romance. As entertaining as they are musically savvy, their intimate connection with their audiences has made them the New York nightclub world's most celebrated team. Pianist/singer Eric Comstock has been called "the heir apparent to the cabaret throne". Vocalist Barbara Fasano's new CD "Busy Being Free" is being hailed as "busy being intoxicatingly sublime" & won the 2016 MAC Award for Major Recording of the Year. Sultry, swinging and surprising, Eric & Barbara will bring you laughs & love songs from Jerome Kern to Joni Mitchell, Cole Porter to Billy Strayhorn.

Steve Ross in "My Manhattan"

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce the return of Steve Ross in "My Manhattan," which will take place on Monday, March 20 at 7pm. In this show, pianist/singer Steve Ross celebrates a long-standing affair - the one between himself and the island of Manhattan. From the countless songs celebrating the great city of New York, Steve has assembled a fascinating and eclectic collection. A wide range of composers will be represented, including Kander & Ebb ("City Lights"), Victor Herbert ("Streets of New York"), Rodgers & Hart ("A Tree In the Park"), Vernon Duke ("Autumn In New York"), George M. Cohan ("Give My Regards To Broadway"), and Stephen Sondheim ("Another Hundred People"). Ross will also include songs by that most sophisticated of Manhattan tunesmiths - Mr. Cole Porter ("Take Me Back To Manhattan," "I Happen To Like New York") as well as his own composition "Manhattan Moon."

The Tristano Project: Helen Sung, Greg Osby, Jaleel Shaw, Ben Allison, and Matt Wilson

Quintet featuring Helen Sung (piano), Greg Osby (alto sax), Jaleel Shaw (alto sax), Ben Allison (bass) and Matt Wilson (drums). For this celebration, Birdland brings together a group of jazz all-stars to explore Tristano's style, compositions, and influence.

Fleurine

Jazz-vocalist Fleurine has always infused her work with a great deal of Brazilian music, but on her most recent projects she delves even deeper into Brazil featuring talented Brazilian composers, Chico Pinheiro and Ian Faquini, while also showcasing her own brand new original songs interspersed with work of some of her favorite famous Brazilian composers like Tom Jobim and Chico Buarque.

ShowBiz After Hours with Frank DiLella

With Special Guest Kelli O'Hara

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that NY1 theater journalist Frank DiLella will return to the Birdland stage with the tenth episode of his talk show, "Show Biz After Hours With Frank DiLella." Frank's Very Special Guest will be Tony Award-winning Broadway leading lady Kelli O'Hara. The event will be taped in front of a live audience on Monday, March 27 at 7pm. "Show Biz After Hours With Frank DiLella" is a regular theater-based live talk show featuring Broadway movers-and-shakers, impromptu musical performances, audience interaction, and a cocktail or two! Musical director for the show will be performer and composer Randy Redd. The series is sponsored by LAB SERIES Skincare for Men.

Eliane Elias

GRAMMY-winning pianist/singer/songwriter Eliane Elias is known for her distinctive and immediately recognizable musical style which blends her Brazilian roots and sensuous, alluring voice with her virtuosic instrumental jazz, classical and compositional skills. Two years after seducing fans with her GRAMMY-winning Made in Brazil (Best Latin Jazz Album), Elias returns with the ebullient Dance of Time, set for release on March 24, 2017 via Concord Jazz.

Jim Caruso's Cast Party

Jim Caruso's Cast Party is a wildly popular weekly soiree that brings a sprinkling of Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the legendary Birdland in New York City every Monday night. It's a cool cabaret night-out enlivened by a hilariously impromptu variety show. Showbiz superstars, backed by Steve Doyle on bass, Billy Stritch on piano and Daniel Glass on drums, hit the stage alongside up-and-comers, serving up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle.

David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band

Inspired by the noble jazz pioneers Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton and their colleagues, David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band breathes life and passion into America's own great art form. Now in its 14th year of residency at Birdland, the weekly post-workday engagement is the city's best musical bargain! Tuba player David Ostwald leads a rotating lineup that features talents such as clarinetist Anat Cohen, trombonist/vocalist Wycliffe Gordon, pianist Ehud Asherie, drummer Marion Felder and more!

Arturo O'Farrill Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra

Grammy Award winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill -- leader of the "first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz" (NY Times) -- was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O'Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley's Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte.

Named for alto saxophonist and jazz pioneer Charlie "Bird" Parker who dubbed it "The Jazz Corner of the World," Birdland opened on December 15th 1949. For 60 years it has been home to jazz legends, from Parker, John Coltrane Duke Ellington and Count Basie to Oscar Peterson, Hank Jones, Diana Krall and everyone in between.
