Charlie Parker Birthday Celebration
Born August 29th, 1920, Charlie "Bird" Parker was one of the most influential and iconic artists in jazz history. As the central figure in the development of bebop in the 1940s Bird was a legendary figure in his own lifetime and was idolized by those who worked with him including Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, Bud Powell and Miles Davis. He was the inspiration for Birdland and practically defined its mission as the home for modern jazz in New York City. Since his death in 1955 at age 34 Bird has inspired every subsequent generation of jazz artist and left a rich legacy of distinctive compositions and signature melodic vocabulary that still informs every style of jazz. For his celebration Birdland presents a group of jazz all-stars who can move seamlessly between classic and contemporary Bird-inspired material.

Adison Evans "Meridian" Album Release Show
Baritone saxophonist, Adison Evans returns with her second release as a leader, Meridian, due out on July 6, 2018. After paying tribute to her musical heroes on 2016's genre-bending debut Hero, Evans' own compositions and musical prowess take centerstage on Meridian over the course of dynamic tracks that are at once lively and pensive. Inspired by the Tuscan countryside Evans considers a second home, Meridian can be considered her love letter to nature. Joining Evans (who in addition to baritone sax offers her talents on bass clarinet and flute) is a stellar line-up of musicians including saxophonist, Troy Roberts, who shares writing and producer credits with Evans.

Although his career spans four decades, Clint Holmes is in the midst of a significant breakthrough. Vocalist, keyboard player and songwriter Nicole Zuraitis blends bountiful songwriting skills, an effervescent presence and dazzling vocals in a consummate package that has thrilled audiences across Manhattan and across the world. Nicole is the 2016 New York City Songwriting Competition Coffee Music Project Winner, 2015 second runner-up in the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and the 2014 Herb Albert ASCAP Young Composer Awards Winner. She's also the Peoples Choice and Johnny Mercer Award winner in the National American Traditions Vocal Competition. She is the vocalist for the world famous Birdland Big Band in New York City and has been nominated in all three jazz categories in the 2018 International Music and Entertainment Awards.

The Cookers
Experience counts, especially in jazz. The more time musicians spend interpreting tunes and interacting with others, the more articulation an audience can expect. You can hear the fruits of such work in the expressive language The Cookers bring to the bandstand and to their four critically acclaimed recordings. This exciting new all-star septet summons up an aggressive mid '60s spirit with a potent collection of expansive post-bop originals marked by all the requisite killer instincts and pyrotechnic playing expected of some of the heaviest hitters on the scene today. The Cookers features Billy Harper on tenor sax, Eddie Henderson and David Weiss on trumpet, Donald Harrison on alto sax, George Cables on piano, Cecil McBee on bass and Billy Hart on drums.

Perry Joslin
Perry Joslin has been recording and writing music for many years. Growing up in New England he worked with the Boston Symphony Orchestra for many years, as well as touring and playing multiple festivals and venues with numerous musicians. Perry has recently released the album, "Dreams of Reality", his third release and it is considered his breakout record. Perry Joslin is as eclectic as his music. His compositions are engaging and sophisticated and he has entertained people all over the world. Joslin's melodies are so lyrical that they become ingrained in your head. Erkin Kydykbaev & Salt Peanuts Jazz Band
Kyrgyzstan's Erkin Kydykbaev is the band's leading artist and is a talented rising bassist. He counts jazz legend Ron Carter as his mentor. His band Salt Peanuts is a popular Kyrgyz jazz group that has been in existence for almost 15 years. Their name from the Russian more accurately translated to "salted nuts," but they have their own preferred English-language name, taken from a famous Dizzy Gillespie tune. Salt Peanuts, the Kyrgyz Republic's leading jazz band, were one of the first jazz groups to arise in independent Kyrgyzstan. Their style is actually a mix of jazz-adjacent genres, including ethno-jazz, fusion, and jazz rock.

Coltrane Revisited
Born in North Carolina in 1926, John Coltrane emerged on the jazz scene in the 1950s, playing tenor and soprano sax with Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk. A pioneer of "hard bop" in the 1960s, he led his own groups and reinvented jazz with experimentation and improvisation. His later recordings reflected his belief that music was a form of spiritual expression. Pianist Helen Sung leads an annual all-star gathering with Jon Irabagon and Greg Osby on sax, Vince Herring on alto sax (Tuesday-Thursday), Jaleel Shaw on alto sax (Friday and Saturday), Lonnie Plaxico on bass and Matt Wilson on drums to celebrate the legendary saxophonist and jazz innovator's birthday, September 23.

Yellowjackets
After over 30 years together, the quintessential electric jazz group Yellowjackets celebrated the release of their 23rd recording and third for Mack Avenue Records, "Cohearence." With its pockets of buoyance, mystery, tumult and whimsy, Cohearence plays out as a multifaceted documentation of how far the once fusion band has come. Led by founding member, keyboardist and primary composer Russell Ferrante, Yellowjackets continue to practice their signature brand of high energy rhythm and improvisational group chemistry. Joanne Tatham celebrates the release of her new recording "The Rings of Saturn," which has enjoyed multiple spins on SiriusXM's Real Jazz station as well as David Kenney's "Everything Old Is New Again" and Mary Foster Conklin's "A Broad Spectrum" programs. Joining her is her arranger/pianist on the project, Max Haymer, who is taking a break from his world tour with Arturo Sandoval. Billy Stritch is one of the premier singer-pianists on the New York and national jazz and cabaret scenes. He began his career in Houston, Texas, where he formed the vocal trio Montgomery, Plant and Stritch. The trio performed all over New York and Europe from 1983 until they disbanded in 1990. A chance meeting with Liza Minnelli in March of 1991 resulted in her asking him to create vocal arrangements for the record-breaking extravaganza Liza Stepping Out at Radio City Music Hall. In addition to his 25-year collaboration with Liza, Billy recently toured with the legendary Tony Bennett as his musical director. A solo entertainer in his own right, he has performed his own shows (including tributes to Mel Tormé and Cy Coleman) in concert halls and nightclubs across the country and in the UK. Billy also serves as music director for such leading vocalists as Linda Lavin, Christine Ebersole, Paulo Szot and Marilyn Maye

The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra
Grammy Award winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill -- leader of the "first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz" (NY Times) -- was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O'Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley's Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte.
