Birdland will kick-off their exciting month of programming with the following acts BOSSABRASIL Presents Marcos Valle, Stacey Kent, Maria Schneider Orchestra, Freddy Cole Quartet, Ravi Coltrane, Tiffany Austin Septet, Bruce Harris, The City Rhythm Orchestra Salutes Sinatra-Basie, Jim Caruso's Cast Party, and more!

BOSSABRASIL Presents Marcos Valle with Special Guests Paula and Jaques Morelenbaum

BossaBrasil, conceived by producer Pat Philips-Strata, brings together top Brazilian artists for a celebration of the musical sounds of Brazil. With over 300 compositions to his credit, pianist/composer Marcos Valle is one of the major songwriters of Brazilian popular music. He will be joined by special guests vocalist Paula Morelenbaum and cellist Jaques Morelenbaum, as well as vocalist Patricia Alves, Renata Massa on drums, Jesse Sadoc on trumpet, Itaiguara Brandao on bass and Roni Ben-Hur on guitar.

Danny Bacher

Danny Bacher is a Singer, Saxophonist, songwriter and Consummate performer. He's a dynamic entertainer with world-class talents in music, theater, and comedy. His clean, crisp delivery is reminiscent of the true greats in entertainment. An engaging stage presence, a smooth-as-silk voice, and the gift of a storyteller all come together to complete this package. Add to that his saxophone prowess and you have one of the hottest musicians on the scene today. Bacher exudes the emotion of a seasoned veteran performer, mixed with his own youthful vigor and bounce. From his catchy, toe-tappin' renditions of rare gems and originals, to the classic takes on the Great American Songbook, Bacher is always at home on the stage and presents his case with humor, style and class.

Steve Ross

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that singer/pianist Steve Ross will bring his new show, "Travels With My Piano," to the Birdland stage on Monday, June 4. Steve Ross will take the audience on a memorable and exciting musical tour of the places he's performed in and celebrated around the globe. He will perform songs about Manhattan, London, Brazil?, Berlin, Paris and Vienna - concluding with a tribute to the nicest destination of them all, home.

Stacey Kent

Critically acclaimed, GRAMMY® nominated singer, Stacey Kent, sings from the soul, telling her stories with faultless phrasing and a lucid, enchanting voice. Stacey and her quartet return to Birdland to celebrate the launch of her new album, "I KNOW I DREAM: The Orchestral Sessions" (SONY). "I Know I Dream" is Stacey's first orchestral album and her most ambitious to date. The rich musical tapestry contrasts with her previous intimate collaboration with Brazilian music master Roberto Menescal.

Tiffany Austin Septet featuring special guest Carl Allen 'Unbroken' Album Release Concert

Unbroken is both a timeless meditation on African-American culture's extraordinary resilience and an all-too-timely response to the reenergized forces seeking to degrade and deny that legacy. Produced by Grammy Award-winning jazz champion Richard Seidel, the album features arrangements by trombonist Mitch Butler. He's joined by a stellar cast of jazz veterans, including pianist Cyrus Chestnut, bassist Rodney Whitaker, drummer Carl Allen, and tenor saxophonist Teodross Avery, along with young trumpeter Ashlin Parker. Rather than separating African-American music into kindred tributaries, Austin plunges into the whole river of sound that's sustained black life in America since before the nation's founding.

Bruce Harris

Bronx-born-and-raised trumpeter Bruce Harris's love of music began in his home, where the sounds of New York's storied music traditions of bebop and hip-hop captivated his attention early on. With his undeniable passion and youthful energy, Harris has performed on national television for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Harris feels privileged to play alongside some of the greatest talents of this generation, including Harry Connick, Jr., The Count Basie Orchestra, and Barry Harris.

June 11 (Monday) at 7:00PM

Cast Members From "Million Dollar Quartet"

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that cast members from Million Dollar Quartet, James Snyder, Billy Woodward, Christopher Ryan Grant, David Abeles, Zurin Villanueva, Billy Finn, will celebrate early rock and roll. On December 4, 1956, four of the most famous rockers of all time convened in the famous Sun Records Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Johnny Cash were all part of an impromptu jam session that was the basis for the Broadway hit, Million Dollar Quartet. The Birdland cast all starred in the original and subsequent National tours of the show, and will celebrate with rock and roll standards and personal stories of their experience. Original band members will accompany the cast, including Larry Lelli on drums.

Maria Schneider Orchestra

Maria Schneider's music has been hailed by critics as "evocative, majestic, magical, heart-stoppingly gorgeous, and beyond categorization." She and her orchestra became widely known starting in 1994 when they released their first recording, 'Evanescence.' With that recording, Schneider began to develop her personal way of writing for her 17-member collective, made up of many of the finest musicians in jazz today, tailoring her compositions to distinctly highlight the uniquely creative voices of the group.

June 17 (Sunday) at 6:00PM

The City Rhythm Orchestra Salutes Sinatra-Basie

The City Rhythm Orchestra has been dazzling audiences for over 35 years and has earned the reputation as one of today's finest big bands. Led by Pete Spina and Nick Vallerio, the group has consistently cooked up exciting music with their distinct style and sound. The 17-piece big band will celebrate the music of Count Basie and Frank Sinatra at a special Father's Day show.

Manhattan Bridges Orchestra featuring Memo & Jacquelene Acevedo

Memo & Jacquelene Acevedo will be celebrating Father's Day at Birdland on June 17th! The father/daughter team bring their fiery rhythms and concepts to original compositions and Jazz Classics on the unique style of Memo's Manhattan Bridges Orchestra, a 'global jazz' 10 pce powerhouse unit, featuring elements of Be-Bop with rhythms from Brazil, Cuba and Colombia. A numerous award recipient, Memo leads MBO with joy and confidence using his expertise of years performing all styles of music as well as educating (NYU/Drummers Collective among others). Jacquelene a Grammy award recipient 2017 takes time off the road from touring with Jazz luminaries (Jeremy Pelt/Nicholas Payton). Join them for what guarantees to be a unique musical experience... and don't forget your father!

Natalie Douglas Tributes: Bassey

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that singer Natalie Douglas will return to the historic music room with more "Tributes!" where she will celebrate the music and magic of the one and only Dame Shirley Bassey.

Freddy Cole Quartet

Uncle to Natalie Cole, brother of Nat "King" Cole, pianist and vocalist Freddy Cole doesn't apologize for sounding a little bit like his iconic elder brother. While there are certain unmistakable similarities, many consider his voice to be smokier, jazzier even. Cole's annual visit is the perfect blend of jazz and great American holiday standards.

The Songs of Ken Laub

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that songwriter Ken Laub will host an evening of his original songs called "New York, Old Friend," with special performances by Natalie Douglas, Veronica Swift, Clint Holmes and Nicolas King. Tedd Firth will accompany on piano, and the Diva Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Sherrie Maricle.

Ravi Coltrane

Ravi Coltrane is a critically acclaimed Grammy™ nominated saxophonist, bandleader, and composer. In the course of a twenty plus year career, Mr. Coltrane has worked as a sideman to many, recorded noteworthy albums for himself and others and founded a prominent independent record label, RKM. Ravi has released six albums as a leader. His latest, 'Spirit Fiction', was released in June of 2012 for the Blue Note label. Additional credits include performances as well as recordings with Elvin Jones, Terence Blanchard, Kenny Baron, Steve Coleman, McCoy Tyner, Jack DeJohnette, Matt Garrison, Jeff 'Tain' Watts, Geri Allen, Joanne Brackeem, The Blue Note 7, among others.

Founded by drummer and musical director Tommy Igoe, the Birdland Big Band features the finest musicians in New York! The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra

Grammy Award winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill -- leader of the "first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz" (NY Times) -- was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O'Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley's Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte.

Jim Caruso's Cast Party

Jim Caruso's Cast Party is a wildly popular weekly soiree that brings a sprinkling of Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the legendary Birdland in New York City every Monday night. It's a cool cabaret night-out enlivened by a hilariously impromptu variety show. Showbiz superstars, backed by Steve Doyle on bass, Billy Stritch on piano and Daniel Glass on drums, hit the stage alongside up-and-comers, serving up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle.

David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band

Inspired by the noble jazz pioneers Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton and their colleagues, David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band breathes life and passion into America's own great art form. Now in its 14th year of residency at Birdland, the weekly post-workday engagement is the city's best musical bargain! Tuba player David Ostwald leads a rotating lineup that features talents such as clarinetist Anat Cohen, trombonist/vocalist Wycliffe Gordon, pianist Ehud Asherie, drummer Marion Felder and more!
