Birdland will kick-off their exciting month of programming with Veronica Swift and the Emmet Cohen Trio, Django Reinhardt Festival Allstars, Tommy Igoe Sextet, Birdland Big Band, John Pizzarelli, Polly Gibbons, Carol Sloane, Memo Acevedo, Ronny Whyte, Jim Caruso's Cast Party, and more!

July 1 (Sunday) at 6:00PM

Larry Fuller

Larry Fuller is an internationally acclaimed jazz pianist, band leader, and clinician who is known by critics and fans to "swing like a beast!". Early in his career, Fuller's undeniable talent earned him the position of musical director and pianist for GRAMMY-nominated vocalist Ernestine Anderson, pianist for renowned drummer Jeff Hamilton's Trio, and final pianist in legendary bassist Ray Brown's Trio. Fuller also toured with guitar-vocal giant John Pizzarelli. Since 2013 - harnessing his extraordinary experience - Fuller has led the Larry Fuller Trio. He presents a musical program rarely experienced live today, consistently praised for his emotive, swinging style, monster technique, and program versatility. From bop, to stride, to swing, to blues - Fuller's show at Birdland is one you will not want to miss!

John Colianni Sextet

Bio Pianist John Colianni's 30 plus years of high profile gigs with Lionel Hampton, Mel Torme and Les Paul to name a few, as well as his appearances as a leader and co-leader have brought him broad exposure to an international audience. His dazzling virtuosity and ferociously swinging style have drawn frequent comparisons to Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson and have earned him the well-deserved nickname "Johnny Chops" from enthusiastic fans.

Veronica Swift

At just 23 years of age Veronica Swift is being recognized as one of the top young singers in jazz. The child of jazz vocalist Stephanie Nakasian and the late bebop pianist Hod O'Brien, Veronica has already appeared at Lincoln Center, Telluride Jazz Festival, Blues Alley, The Jazz Cruise, and Birdland, performing with Jon Hendricks, Annie Ross, Esperanza Spalding, Joe Lovano, Bob Dorough, Paquito d'Rivera, and other established jazz artists.

The Emmet Cohen Trio

Multifaceted American jazz pianist and composer Emmet Cohen has emerged as one of his generation's pivotal figures in music and the related arts. A recognized prodigy, Cohen began Suzuki method piano instruction at age three, and his playing quickly became a mature melding of musicality, technique, and concept. Possessing a fluid technique, an innovative tonal palette, and an expansive repertoire, Cohen plays with the command of a seasoned veteran and the passion of an artist fully devoted to his medium. In addition, Emmet Cohen has established a comprehensive role in the world of the creative arts that extends beyond performing.

David Damiani & The No Vacancy Orchestra with special guest Renee Olstead

Dave Damiani is an American singer, songwriter, producer based out of Los Angeles, CA. Having started as a bartender at the famed CHARLIE O'S JAZZ CLUB in Valley Village, CA, Dave Damiani had the opportunity to work, learn and become friends with some of the best musicians on the planet. Legends like Earl Palmer, Marty Harris, Ross Tompkins, Sam Most, Teddy Edwards, John Heard, Roy McCurdy, Frank Capp, Ernie McDaniel, Dini Clarke, Danny Grissett, George Gaffney, Mark Murphy, and Richie Cole (just to name a few) took time to mentor Dave Damiani, share stories and chord changes.

Gunhild Carling

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that Gunhild Carling, known as Sweden's "Queen of Swing," will return to Birdland for one night only. Swedish musical sensation Gunhild Carling is an internationally acclaimed superstar whose one-woman show is a can't-miss event! Whether she's singing favorite jazz standards, playing one of many instruments (trumpet, trombone, harmonica, flute, recorder, or jazz bagpipe), Gunhild's sublime showmanship shines through. Carling is a jazz artist of the old breed, combining extraordinary skills on trumpet and trombone with vaudeville stunts. In her playing, she shows heavy influences from Bix and Louie Armstrong as well as Billie Holiday.

Django Reinhardt NY Festival: Django Festival Allstars and Special Guests

Inspired by Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington, The Allstars bring the audience to their feet with lightning-fast guitar fingerwork on standards such as "Minor Swing" and also put the crowd in a romantic mood with gorgeous melodies, hit songs of the past such as Django's "Nuages." With Samson Schmitt on lead guitar,Ludovic Beier on accordion & accordina, Pierre Blanchard on violin, Doudou Cuillerier on rhythm guitar/vocals and Antonio Licusati on bass, the Allstars will be joined by special guests Veronica Swift on vocals from Tuesday to Thursday, Edmar Castaneda on jazz harp on Friday and Saturday and Romero Lubambo on guitar on Sunday.

Ronny Whyte

Ronny Whyte is not only considered a premiere interpreter of Classic American Popular song he is also an outstanding jazz pianist, and an award-winning songwriter. He will be joined by Boots Maleson on bass, Taro Okamoto on drums and John Hart guitar.

Carol Sloane

Carol Sloane is a native New Englander, born into a family of music lovers. Aunts and uncles, cousins and grandparents loved to sing, and one or two played the piano. Although Carol never had formal music training, she was blessed with the ability to "hear" and quickly memorized hundreds of popular songs she heard on the radio in the 1940's and 50's.

Natalie Douglas Tributes: Cher

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that singer Natalie Douglas will return to the historic music room with more "Tributes!" where she will celebrate the music and magic of the one and only Cher.

Lucie Arnaz

Birdland is thrilled to announce Lucie Arnaz's new show, "I Got The Job: Songs From My Musical Past." Celebrating a life on stage, Lucie Arnaz returns to her theater roots and looks back at some of the roles she has created on stages throughout the world. From her first role at 14 as The Cheshire Cat in Alice In Wonderland, to a grandmother hanging upside down on a trapeze while singing about the preciousness of life in Pippin, Lucie and Musical Director Ron Abel offer audiences a brand-new concert of stories and songs.

Tommy Igoe Sextet

Tommy Igoe has long been recognized as one of the finest drummers in the world. The son of big band drummer Sonny Igoe, (Benny Goodman, Woody Herman), Tommy is a top-selling drum-education author who wrote the drum set book for Disney's epic Broadway production of the "The Lion King" where he served as principal drummer and conductor. He will be joined by James Genus on bass, Allen Farnham on key, Tony Lustig on baritone sax, Jonathan Powell on trumpet and Rolando Morales Matos on percussion.

July 19 (Thursday) at 6:00PM

Augie Haas

Augie Haas currently lives in New York City where he is a professional trumpeter, composer, and teacher. As one of the most in-demand trumpet players in New York, Augie has worked with artists including Harry Connick, Jr., The Maria Schneider Orchestra, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, The Gil Evans Project, Birdland Big Band, various Broadway shows, and The Radio City Orchestra. Augie is currently a regular member of the orchestra for Aladdin on Broadway.

Paul Marinaro with Shelia Jordan

Chicago-based jazz vocalist Paul Marinaro has quickly made a name for himself, becoming one of the most in-demand and respected male vocalists. He demonstrates a mastery of and an infectious passion for the material he chooses allowing him to successfully command audiences.

July 23 (Monday) at 7:30PM

Max von Essen in Concert with Billy Stritch

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to present the return of Broadway singer/actor Max von Essen in concert. Max von Essen, currently starring in the hit Broadway production of Anastasia, returns with his old fashioned, new show celebrating the best of Broadway and the American songbook. Once again, Billy Stritch will be musical director for the evening, with Steve Doyle on bass, Daniel Glass on drums, and Mairi Dorman-Phaneuf on cello.

Susie Mosher

The Lineup with Susie Mosher is a wild, anything-goes variety show featuring entertainers from the Broadway, cabaret and comedy scenes. Actress/singer Mosher hosts the spontaneous extravaganza at 9:30pm on the first and third Tuesday of every month starting July 24. Susie's special guests will be Alice Ripley, Julie Halston, David Perlman, Celisse Henderson and vocal group Siren.

Memo Acevedo

Latin percussionist and drummer Memo Acevedo is a native of Santa Fe de Bogota, Colombia. He is highly regarded in the field of Afro-Cuban and Brazilian rhythms and has performed with a number of diverse musicians.

The Marcy and Zina Show

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to present the return of The Marcy & Zina Show, featuring the dynamic theater songwriters, Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich, along with a cast of talented friends to sing their songs. Marcy Heisler (Author/Lyricist) and Zina Goldrich (Composer) have toured the country with their living-room style free for all concerts, showcasing new work, new collaborators and favorite performers since 1993.

John Pizzarelli with Jessica Molaskey

Birdland favorite John Pizzarelli presents his guitar/vocal, piano, bass trio, reminiscent of the swinging sound and configuration favored by Nat "King" Cole in the 1950s and 60s. John Pizzarelli charms audiences with his warmth, sense of humor, and musical chops. Through his multi-faceted career as a jazz guitarist, vocalist and bandleader, the son of the legendary New Jersey native guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, has become one of the most recognizable faces and voices in contemporary jazz for his interpretations of classic standards, romantic ballads and the cool jazz flavor he brings to his performances and recordings.

The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra

Grammy Award winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill -- leader of the "first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz" (NY Times) -- was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O'Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley's Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte.

Jim Caruso's Cast Party

Jim Caruso's Cast Party is a wildly popular weekly soiree that brings a sprinkling of Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the legendary Birdland in New York City every Monday night. It's a cool cabaret night-out enlivened by a hilariously impromptu variety show. Showbiz superstars, backed by Steve Doyle on bass, Billy Stritch on piano and Daniel Glass on drums, hit the stage alongside up-and-comers, serving up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle.

Inspired by the noble jazz pioneers Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton and their colleagues, David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band breathes life and passion into America's own great art form. Now in its 14th year of residency at Birdland, the weekly post-workday engagement is the city's best musical bargain! With warm, soulful vocals and an innate blues sensibility, Polly Gibbons has been likened to many of the jazz and soul greats, but with her own fun, unique style of storytelling. British London-based vocalist Polly Gibbons is one of the most respected and talked about young singer/songwriters of her generation. Being nominated for the prestigious BBC Jazz Award back in 2006 with no album release to her name, was a clear indication of just how special a singer and performer Polly is. Much esteemed by her contemporaries, Polly has built a reputation as an original and gifted voice. With warm, rich, soulful vocals and an innate blues sensibility, Polly has been likened to many of the jazz and soul greats bringing her own storytelling and earnest depth alongside unique humor and fun to performances.
