Bill Krakauer Sings At The Cell Performance Salon 3/2

BILL KRAKAUER will be singing popular songs from the 20's to the 2000's - famous or forgotten - written by women or sung by great women performers at THE CELL PERFORMANCE SALON for just two nights only. Jonathan Cerullo directs, Paul Trueblood is the accompanist and music director, and JERED EGAN performs on double bass. The production plays two nights only, Monday, February 16th and Monday, March 2nd at 8:00 pm. All Tickets are $25.00 (no minimum) and can be reserved by calling 212-724-7933. THE CELL is located at 338 West 23rd Street between 8th and 9th Avenues.

Songs composed by women include, among others, Starting at the Bottom, Can This Be Love and Nobody Breaks My Heart (1930) from Fine and Dandy by Kay Swift, Baby's Birthday Party (1930) by Ann Ronell, and New Song from THE HOUSEWIVES' CANTATA (1972) by Mira J. Spektor. Among the great women performers celebrated are Libby Holman (Moanin' Low - from THE LITTLE SHOW, 1929), Mae West (My Old Flame - from the film "Belle of the Nineties," 1934), Ruth Etting (Love Me or Leave Me - from WHOOPEE, 1928), Betty Comden (Ya Got Me - from ON THE TOWN, 1944), and Gertrude Lawrence (It's Bad for Me - from Cole Porter's NYMPH ERRANT, 1933).

BILL KRAKAUER most recently appeared in Shakespeare's HENRY VI/1 and RICHARD III at American Theatre for Actors, as NARRATOR of Mira J. Spektor's VILLA DIODATI at the York, and singing "Clementine" in a Works and Process Event at the Guggenheim Museum. Other Cabaret appearances include SONGS FROM MY GRANDFATHER'S PLAYER PIANO, at the Triad and at the late lamented Danny's Skylight Room, and, again at Danny's, THE DOCTOR IS IN (Songs of Advice) and, together with Joanne Gibson, A Cole Porter REVIEW. Since Bill became active in his second career three years ago, he ate frog's legs (and loved them) for a commercial for French TV, and, in a short film by David Elinson, solo'd as a Jewish short-order cook from Gimbel's lunch room. He has performed ! Off Off Broadway as a Zoroastrian God, a refugee Viennese conductor - the lead - in Joel Shatzky's TO ATONE, an aging amorous caballero in the Quinteros' A SUNNY MORNING, a John Patrick Shanley bartender in WELCOME TO THE MOON, and as one of LYSISTRATA's frustrated males. Bill turned in an "...excellent..." (Blog Critics) performance as Old Gayve in Arthur Kopit's THE DAY THE WHORES CAME OUT TO PLAY TENNIS.

Director Jonathan Cerullo has choreographed "Evening At Pops" for Great Performances, the Big Apple Circus' Carnivale and Picturesque and two dances for the Broadway production of SAY GOODNIGHT, GRACIE. Additional Broadway credits include Assistant Director/Choreographer for BAND IN BERLIN and Associate Choreographer for ANNA KARENINA, and he was featured in LEGS DIAMOND and CATS. Off Broadway, he directed the premiere of 7WOMEN 7HEAVENS, choreographed MIDSUMMER NIGHTS for Musical Theatre Works, WONDERFUL TOWN at the Equity Library Theatre, and directed Uta Hagen's 50-Year Tribute. His film and television work includes having been the Assistant to the Choreographer on "The First Wives Club," Donny Osmond's "This Is The Moment," and "Natalie Cole's Ch! ristmas Special."

Musical Director Paul Trueblood has been musical director/pianist for a variety of performers, including Diane Keaton, Michael Feinstein, Julie Wilson, Carol Lawrence, Matthew Broderick, Anita Ellis and Earl Wrightson and Lois Hunt. During their lifetime, he was personal pianist for lyricist Alan Jay Lerner and director Joshua Logan. He appeared with Betty Comden and Adolph Green on Broadway, theatre and concert engagements. In 1996-97, Paul toured the world with Marianne Faithfull in a Kurt Weill evening. His CD with Ms. Faithfull, 20th Century Blues, is in stores on RCA Victor. As a composer, his work has been heard at Radio City Music Hall, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and in every major New York cabaret venue. Paul is also a Master Teacher at the annual Cabaret Confe! rence at Yale University.

THE CELL, operated by THE CELL THEATRE COMPANY, is a new performance salon located in a former art gallery on West 23rd. The company presents its own work, hosts a number of resident companies, including the Center for Contemporary Opera, and provides a space for artists from multiple disciplines to present their work.
