In what can only be called a drive-by performance, the indomitable Baby Jane Dexter is bringing "More Rules of the Road" for two-night special engagement this month. The critically acclaimed traffic-stopper plays two Fridays -- April 18 and 25 -- both at 7pm. Her back-seat driver is Ian Herman, her music director at the piano.
When she premiered the show in November, which was itself an updating of her 2012 "Rules of the Road," Dexter put Detroit -- and the rest of the country -- on notice: When I'm driving, watch out.
"More Rules of the Road" features an incredible pile-up of songwriters: Irving Berlin; Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh; George Gershwin; Peggy Lee and Sonny Burke; Rufus Wainwright and Abbey Lincoln. The added features were something by Mike Scott from the Waterboys; a song written by Randy Newman and introduced by Baby Jane, and a new blues number by Vivien Wolsk suggested by KT Sullivan. The recipient of six major MAC Awards, two Nightlife Awards, and two Back Stage Bistro Awards, Dexter has performed at an endless array of major venues throughout the country, including Reno Sweeney, The Ballroom, Eighty Eight's, Blues Alley, The Kennedy Center and Weill Recital Hall. The Metropolitan Room, which celebrates its 8th anniversary in May, has been her NY base of operations from the beginning.Videos
