Steve Ross in "Rythym and Romance"
The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that singer/pianist Steve Ross will return to the Birdland stage in "Rhythm and Romance" on Sunday, May 1 at 6pm. Singer/pianist Steve Ross, and members of the Yale Concert Band, under the direction of Tom Duffy, will perform the sweet and saucy songs of his favorite composer, Cole Porter, iconic songs by Irving Berlin, and the bright and rhythmic numbers associated with the inimitable Fred Astaire.

An Encore Evening with the Iris Williams
The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that singer Iris Williams will return to the historic stage with "An Encore Evening with Iris Williams" on Monday, May 2 at 7pm. The concert will celebrate the Great American Songbook, concentrating on songs by Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Duke Ellington, Henry Mancini and the Gershwins. There will also be selections of songs made famous by Edith Piaf.

Ann Hampton Callaway Presents "But Beautiful"
Platinum Award winning Ann Hampton Callaway returns to Birdland May 3rd-7th with her latest show "But Beautiful," a collection of romantic jazz standards. The singer/songwriter who The New York Times calls "A phenomenal, multi-range voice" and "A blues and jazz powerhouse" puts her unique stamp on classics by Duke Ellington, Harold Arlen, George Gershwin, Cy Coleman and Johnny Mandel among others. Accompanied by her all-star trio- Ted Rosenthal on piano, Martin Wind on bass and Tim Horner on drums- Callaway woos you with love songs from sultry to sizzling.

Daniel Reichard: Friends, Acquaintances and Strangers
The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that on Sunday, May 8 at 6 PM, Daniel Reichard will return to the historic room with a spirited variety show entitled "Friends, Acquaintances, and Strangers." This concert, which takes place on Mother's Day, will feature Reichard and an eclectic gathering of some of New York City's most talented performing artists.

The Graduating Class of CAP21 Presents "The Pop/Rock Project"
The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that the graduating class of CAP21's Professional Musical Theatre Training Program will launch their promising careers in "The Pop/Rock Project" at Birdland on Monday, May 9 at 7pm. Twenty dynamic performers will star in a one-of-a-kind cabaret celebrating Pop/Rock on Broadway! Musical Director Rob Rokicki and Director Randy Redd will present an exciting line-up of CAP21 alumni and surprise guest stars!

BOSSABRASIL: Leny Andrade with Roni Ben-hur Trio
Latin Grammy winner, Leny Andrade, is acknowledged as Brazil's true Jazz Singer. Her voice is a deep, husky instrument of such dramatic depth that , as Stephen Holden wrote in the New York Times, "seems to well up from the center of the earth". Andrade blends jazz with samba, bossa nova, and bolero. Her improvisational brilliance and vocal fireworks have led many writers to compare her to Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. Tony Bennett says "Leny Andrade is the Ella Fitzgerald of Brazil". At Birdland, she will perform with the Roni Ben-Hur Trio with Itaiguara Brandao on Bass and her long-time drummer Helio Schiavo . She has recorded with Ben-Hur for Motema Records, "Algria de Viver" (Joy of Living), recently released. This is the ultimate Andrade, singing Brazilian classics .

Victoria's special guests will be Matthew and Gunnar Nelson, of the multi-platinum selling band, Nelson. The first annual New York Hot Jazz Camp, spearheaded by co-directors Molly Ryan and Bria Skonberg, will take place May 17-22. After an intensive week teaching a total of 48 musicians - the camp faculty all-stars will take the Birdland stage and show everyone what hot jazz is all about.

A Sophisticated Reunion
Starring Terri Klausner, Valarie Pettiford and Ty Stephens
The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to present "A Sophisticated Reunion" on Monday, May 23at 7pm. The one-night-only event will star Terri Klausner, Valarie Pettiford and Ty Stephens. It's "A Sophisticated Reunion" thirty-five years in the making! Sophisticated Ladies, a musical review based on the music of Duke Ellington, opened on Broadway in March 1981. The musical brilliance and fun resumes at Birdland when original cast members and co-stars Valarie Pettiford, Terri Klausner, and Ty Stephens reunite. The trio met during the run of the show and have remained best buddies for over three decades. Included in the concert will be some of the Duke's greatest hits, like "It Don't Mean A Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)," "Hit Me With A Hot Note," and the title song, "Sophisticated Lady." In addition, these talented entertainers bring elements of their individual acts to the evening, all under the musical direction of Ron Abel.

Yelena Eckemoff, the prolific and enthralling pianist and composer, has earned plaudits for her recent releases "Everblue", "Lions", "A Touch of Radiance", "Glass Song" and more. She has made high-level original music with sidemen on the order of Peter Erskine, Arild Andersen, Jon Christensen, George Mraz, and Mark Turner. With her new release "Leaving Everything Behind", she deepens her multifaceted body of work by drawing on older original material - a few pieces dating as far back as the 1980s. "To emphasize my concept behind this album, I needed to go back to my roots," says the pianist. "I wanted to draw on music I composed when I knew very little - if anything at all - about the modern jazz field."

Best known for her Tony-nominated performances in Cinderella and Bonnie & Clyde, Ms. Osnes has also starred on Broadway in Anything Goes, South Pacific, and Grease. Bill Charlap Trio
One of the world's premier jazz pianists, BILL CHARLAP has performed and recorded with many leading artists of our time, ranging from jazz masters Phil Woods and Wynton Marsalis to singers Tony Bennett and Barbra Streisand. Since 1997, he has led the Bill Charlap Trio with bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington, now recognized as one of the leading groups in jazz. Charlap is the artistic director of New York City's Jazz in July Festival at the 92nd Street Y, and he has produced concerts for Jazz at Lincoln Center, the JVC Jazz Festival and the Hollywood Bowl. A two-time Grammy nominee, Charlap is married to renowned jazz pianist Renee Rosnes, and the two often collaborate in a duo piano setting. In the spring of 2010, Charlap and Rosnes released "Double Portrait", their acclaimed duo piano recording on the Blue Note label.

Arturo O'Farrill Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra
Grammy Award winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill -- leader of the "first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz" (NY Times) -- was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O'Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley's Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte.

Named for alto saxophonist and jazz pioneer Charlie "Bird" Parker who dubbed it "The Jazz Corner of the World," Birdland opened on December 15th 1949. For 60 years it has been home to jazz legends, from Parker, John Coltrane Duke Ellington and Count Basie to Oscar Peterson, Hank Jones, Diana Krall and everyone in between. The original 52nd street location was a cultural barometer and meeting place, inspiring the songs "Birdland" and "Lullaby of Birdland," and serving as a regular haunt for celebrities and cultural figures.
