George Clinton is the single most influential figure in the history of funk, the mastermind behind both Parliament & Funkadelic. He revolutionized R&B during the '70s, twisting soul music into funk by adding influences from several late-'60s acid heroes: Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, and Sly Stone. The Parliament/Funkadelic machine ruled black music during the '70s, capturing over 40 R&B hit singles (including three number ones) and recording three platinum albums.

Protégés of the Insane Clown Posse, the Detroit-area rap duo Twiztid based their act on a similarly theatrical, outrageous, makeup-heavy image and an obsession with serial-killer horror films. Jamie Madrox and the Monoxide Child cast themselves as psychotic axe murderers on their 1998 debut album, Mostasteless, which was reissued with new artwork and extra tracks a year later in the wake of ICP's rise to national notoriety. Twiztid's second album, Freek Show, was released on Halloween 2000 in conjunction with ICP's Bizzar/Bizaar sets; Mirror Mirror followed two years later. The duo toured extensively throughout the States in the early 2000s, developing a small cult following throughout the Midwest in particular.

Ultimate Breaks and Beats, commonly abbreviated as UBB, is the name of a 25-volume compilation of mostly full-length songs that were known for their breaks. The series features music, released between 1966 and 1984, which features a prominent drum break. The records came out on the Street Beat label in the mid-1980s. The release of a new volume in this series usually led to a wave of rap records using the breaks. Re-releases of these LPs, some packaged in pairs for DJ scratching and mixing convenience, became available and may be found in record stores today. CDs of some of the volumes may be found as well. In 2006, a compilation of most of these volumes was released digitally on a 2 disc CD + DVD.

When he broke on the national scene in 1957 with his classic "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On," Jerry Lee Lewis was every parents' worst nightmare perfectly realized: a long, blonde-haired Southerner who played the piano and sang with uncontrolled fury and abandon, while simultaneously reveling in his own sexuality. Jerry Lee's follow-up to "Shakin'" was
another defining moment for his career, as well as for rock & roll. "Great Balls of Fire" featured only piano and drums, but sounded huge with Phillips' production behind it. It got him into a rock & roll movie (Jamboree) and his fame was spreading to such a degree that Johnny Cash and Carl
Perkins left Sun to go to Columbia Records.

Sunday, February 28

We hope you will join us on Johnny Cash's birthday as "Michael Patrick's Ring of Fire band" help us celebrate and relive the music of the legendary artist... the one & only Johnny Cash! Michael Patrick and his legendary band of "Suburban Hillbillies" have made a commitment to the revival of country, folk and roots music in their homeland of New Jersey. Obviously not a hotbed or breeding ground for the Next Nashville Star, Michael and his band (including members: Dan Markovitch - Lead Gtr/Vocals, Lou Montella - Bass, and Drummer - Mike Bisozio) have made incredible strides and carved out a comfortable niche along with a handful of other local performers in fulfilling a desire for something different, gritty, raw and real in New Jersey.
