ANDREA MARCOVCCI is turning sixty-five this November! The tour kicks into high gear when it arrives on the east coast where Andrea debuts at both Joe's Pub (at The Public Theatre) in New York City and The Landmark Theatre in Pt. Washington, NY (Andrea's only scheduled Long Island appearance.) Plus - a return, after eight years, to the Emelin Theatre in Mamaroneck, NY. (More details below.)What better way to celebrate her birthday, than to honor the singers and songwriters of the 1940's and '50's that inspired the current Queen of Cabaret. The new show, "Moonlight Cocktail," began in Los Angeles at Tom Rolla's Gardenia in preparation for Andrea's debut at Michael Feinstein's latest club - Feinstein's at the Nikko in San Francisco. "Moonlight Cocktail" is on its way to Davenport's in Chicago this summer.
Andrea will celebrate her actual birth date - Monday, November 18th with two shows at Joe's Pub along with longtime Musical Director, Shelly Markham and Jered Egan on Bass. Andrea is excited to make her debut at the club. She has fond memories of playing Ophelia opposite Sam Waterston's Hamlet for The Public's Shakespeare in the Park. To get the celebration started,
Joe's Pub has set aside specially priced $20 seats to encourage young people to experience the art of cabaret.
Audiences have been thrilled with this exciting adventure about clubs and performers in an era when celebrations lasted all night long! In his review of the show in San Francisco, Robert Lee Hall of The Piedmont Post said, "Marcovicci is a cabaret phenomenon.... There is no one who can match her in vividness, in wit, in glamour, in drama...Her great strength is her ability to perform songs, not just sing them... She gives every moment just the right comic or dramatic edge."
"Moonlight Cocktail" celebrates that bygone era of sophisticated nightlife of dining and dancing. From coast to coast, from large clubs to intimate boites, (The Mocambo, Hungry i, San Francisco; Palmer House, MR. Kelly's, Chicago; Café Gala, Los Angeles; Stork Club, The Blue Angel, New York) the singers that enthralled you became household names like Mabel Mercer, Bobby Short, Julie Wilson, Hildegarde, Portia Nelson, and Billie Holiday. Andrea's nostalgic spin through the forties and fifties, when an evening began at one club before winding down with fine champagne at another, is filled with her unique insight, charm and wit. Highlights include: You Fascinate Me So, Darling Je Vous Aime Beaucoup, All in Fun, Talk of the Town, Some Other Time, as well as the delicious title song Moonlight Cocktail.
Andrea holds the record - an unprecedented 25 seasons - at the legendary Oak Room of the Algonquin Hotel, and was the final performer ever to grace that stage. This past fall she appeared at The Café Carlyle with SMILE (also available on CD). Andrea has created over thirty nightclub acts, has sold out Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, Lincoln Center, and appeared in concert with numerous orchestras and at the White House. She has acted in films, television and theatre, both regionally and on and off-Broadway. Her co-stars have included Danny DeVito, Woody Allen, Sir Michael Caine, and Sir John Gielgud, among others.
