FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club, presents 'Amanda Carr with Les Femmes de Chanson'. From A Night in Tunisia to A Night to Remember, this all female, all-star trio delivers an inspired take on the American Songbook. International jazz recording artist Amanda Carr, along with pianist/vocalist Yvonne Monnett and bassist Genevieve Rose have departed from the traditional jazz trio to produce a labor of love that underscores an intimate musical connection, both with each other and the familiar melodies.
2016 Boston Music Award's Jazz Artist of the Year nominee Amanda Carr has coalesced a powerful trio of women with exceptional virtuosity on their respective instruments. After sharing the bill with multi-platinum, five-time Grammy-nominated artist Michael Feinstein, Amanda Carr has similarly gravitated to contemporary interpretations of the American Songbook. To help her in this vision is pianist and vocalist Yvonne Monnett, a jazz teacher at Brown University and professional accompanist with wide ranging accolades including Jeffery Osborne and Lena Prima. Joining her is Genevieve Rose on double bass. Rose, the youngest person to ever hold a faculty position in UMass' Jazz in July Program, was also a twenty-time recipient of most-valuable-player awards at high school music festivals across New England and Canada. She has accompanied pros at the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton and at CityStage in Springfield.
Amanda Carr with Les Femmes de Chanson plays Feinstein's/54 Below (254 West 54th Street) on April 1st. There is a $25-$35 cover charge and a $25 food and beverage minimum. Tickets and info are available at www.54Below.com. Tickets on the day of performance after 4:00pm are only available by calling (646) 476-3551. Doors open at 8:45pm.
MORE ABOUT AMANDA CARR
Born to two professional jazz musicians as parents, Amanda Carr was raised with music in her veins and a swing to her heartbeat. As a teenager she was playing pop and rock night clubs throughout the Boston area. The following three decades of recording and performing internationally brought her back to the jazz world where she's received critical acclaim. Nat Hentoff twice featured her on the front page of the Arts and Leisure section of the Wall Street Journal, hailing her "a true jazz singer in a time of wannabes." After hearing Amanda, Jon Garelick of the Boston Phoenix wrote, "the swing is undeniable, her freedom around the beat, the aptness of her phrasing... her ability to blend with the other musicians." Known for her take on the Great American Song Book, she simultaneously channels her roots of pop, blues, folk and rock into her many guest vocal appearances. These have varied from Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops, to blues artist James Montgomery, and the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Amanda Carr was a headliner at the EuroJazz Festival alongside Grammy-winning saxophonist James Moody, and Oscar Peterson's bassist, George Mraz. Her 2009 big band album entitled "Common Thread" debuted on the top of multiple Jazz Best Seller charts and in the Top 50 on Billboard. Her Portuguese rendition of 'Mas Que Nada' labeled her the top 3 Vocalists of 2009 in the jazz category in Brazil's 'Rio Review'. On the side, she?s composed for several PBS documentaries, including 'The Story of Golf' which received an Emmy Nomination. Paying homage to her big band parents, Amanda founded 'American Big Band Preservation Society' in 2009, a non-profit that preserves the essence of American musical heritage.
