Jim Caruso's Cast Party will present ALEX GEMIGNANI, Monday, September 29, 2008 at 7:00p.m., as part of the long-running, Nightlife Award-winning concert series Broadway at Birdland.
Broadway performer ALEX GEMIGNANI will be featured in an evening entitled "Getting Gone" where cabaretgoers can expect to hear tunes by Kern, Hammerstein,
Cole Porter, Billy Joel, Sara Bareilles,
Ben Folds and Todd Alsup. ALEX will be backed by
Tedd Firth on piano, MATT ARONOFF on bass,
Larry Lelli on drums and TONY ROMANO on guitar.
ALEX appeared as John Hinckley in the Roundabout's 2004 Broadway mounting of
Stephen Sondheim's Assassins. GEMIGNANI returned to Broadway in late 2005 as the Beadle in the revival of Sweeney Todd. He has appeared in concert versions of both
South Pacific (with
Reba McEntire and
Brian Stokes Mitchell at Carnegie Hall in June, 2005) and Passion (with
Patti LuPone,
Michael Cerveris, and
Audra McDonald at The Rose Theater in March, 2005). Both concerts were taped for PBS "Great Performances".
GEMIGNANI participated in a memorable performance of "Opening Doors" from Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along at Symphony Space's March, 2005 Wall to Wall Sondheim event celebrating Sondheim's 75th birthday. He recently stared as Jean Valjean in the Broadway revival of Les Misérables, which opened November 9, 2006, at the Broadhurst Theatre. Alex recently appeared on the national tour of
John Doyle's Sweeney Todd appearing in the title role opposite
Judy Kaye at the Toronto and Columbus, Ohio, stops of the tour.
Recently featured on NY1, BROADWAY AT BIRDLAND was created by acclaimed performer, writer, producer & presenter Jim Caruso. BROADWAY AT BIRDLAND is a weekly concert series on Sunday and Monday evenings, showcasing legendary Broadway performers and composers, as well as up-and-coming musical theater talents. Started as a companion piece to the hugely popular and hilarious weekly impromptu variety show Jim Caruso's Cast Party (which follows Mondays at 9:30pm). BROADWAY AT BIRDLAND has recently hosted such diverse performers as Jason Robert Brown, Lucie Arnaz, Betty Buckley, Christine Ebersole with Billy Stritch, and Melissa Errico - as well as the benefit concert Chita Rivera LOVES BROADWAY CARES, which sold out two shows in record time.
