Fresh from his Tony Award winning, nightly show-stopping performance in as the beloved Genie in Disney's Aladdin, as well as Broadway performances in Memphis and Spelling Bee, James Monroe Iglehart makes his 54 Below debut with How the Heck Did I Get Here? tonight, May 4th at 7 pm.

James relives his obsession with being cool, getting girls, and a becoming a star told through funny childhood stories and songs ranging from R&B, Hip-Hop, Gospel and Broadway (and maybe a country tune!). CBS New York says that "Iglehart's performance is a classic example of traditional song-and-dance Broadway brilliance.

His charisma shines almost as bright as his smile, and he has created a genie that you never want to leave the stage. It's Iglehart's warmth that seems to leap off the stage and into the delighted hearts of lucky theatergoers of all ages, warmth that is so charming and so magnetic that it's almost palpable." James Monroe Iglehart won the 2014 Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical for Aladdin.

Iglehart originated the role of Bobby in the Tony Award-winning musical Memphis. He was featured on stage and screen in such shows as The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Broadway), The Wiz (Off-Broadway), "The Good Wife" and "The Electric Company" (Silent E Soloist). James is also a member of the hip hop improv group Freestyle Love Supreme. James dedicates his performance to Dawn and his nieces and nephews.

Disney's Aladdin, the new musical comedy based on the Academy Award-winning animated film, opened to critical acclaim on March 20th, 2014 at Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre.

Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, Aladdin features music by Tony Award and eight-time Oscar winner lan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Newsies, Sister Act), lyrics by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice (Evita, Aida) and two-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer), with a book by Beguelin, and is directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon). This new production features a full score, including the Oscar and Grammy winning hit "A Whole New World," and four other cherished songs from the film and multi Grammy-winning original motion picture soundtrack.

Aladdin stars Adam Jacobs (Les Miserables, The Lion King) in the title role, Courtney Reed (In the Heights, Mamma Mia) as Jasmine, James Monroe Iglehart (Memphis, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) as Genie, and, as Jafar, Tony Award nominee Jonathan Freeman (Mary Poppins, The Producers, She Loves Me) brings to the stage the role he indelibly created in the animated film. The show also stars Brian Gonzales, Brandon O'Neill and Jonathan Schwartz as Aladdin's sidekicks Babkak, Kassim and Omar, Clifton Davis as Sultan and Don Darryl Rivera as Iago.
