Eric Michael Sweeney and Matthew A. Stephens present Songs and Stories: A Summertime Soiree, an intimate summer evening of storytelling and music making by five rising stars of Broadway. Singers share stories from their lives and the songs which have inspired them along the way. Whether it is a song from the first Broadway show they saw, a song from their childhood, or a song from their dream role, this outstanding cast weaves together their personal histories with the soundtracks of their lives. Eric Michael Sweeney is an independent producer and theater professional in New York City with a passion for creating new opera and musical theater. He produces pieces by the next generation of composers and librettists and aims to introduce the modern operatic art form to a new and diverse audience. Eric graduated from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD with a Masters Degree in Vocal Performance. He studied voice with William Sharp and Stanley Cornett and opera direction with Garnett Bruce and Roger Brunyate. Eric is an executive member of the Society of Peabody Alumni. He currently works in the Literary Division of Abrams Artists Agency.
MORE ABOUT MATTHEW A. STEPHENS
NYC-based music director and pianist Matthew A. Stephens recently returned from the 2017-2018 national tour of The Sound of Music as the Associate Conductor. Recent engagements include concerts with world-renown soprano Deborah Voigt and cabaret performances with Broadway veterans Mary Testa and Norm Lewis. Matthew's music direction credits include productions and workshops with Abingdon Theatre Company, The York Theatre Company, Light Opera of New York, New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players, American Lyric Theatre, College Light Opera Co., Forth Worth Opera and Kentucky Opera. An advocate of new work development, Matthew has collaborated on many new works, including Hurley & Osborne's The Body Politic which premiered at NYMF in 2017. In addition, he has served as a coach and pianist at Manhattan School of Music's Precollege Division as well as Montclair State University.
