ole, the world's fastest growing independent rights management company, and Indaba Music have announced the winners of their joint cover-song contest in honor of legendary rock band Rush's 40th anniversary.
Matthieu Romarin of Montpelier, France, was named the Grand Prize Winner for his moody, electronic take on Rush's "Limelight." He will receive a $5,000 prize, two tickets and two meet-and-greet passes to Rush's final R40 concert in Los Angeles on August 1, a meeting with an ole creative representative, a limited edition Rush Fender Squier bass guitar, and a lyric-video feature for his cover song on ole's YouTube channel. Jacob Moon of Hamilton, ON, Canada, took second place, winning $3,000 and a Rush prize pack, and Kenny Schick of Boulder Creek, CA, finished third, winning $1,000 and a Rush prize pack.
"Matthieu, Jacob, and Kenny's TRACKS embody the spirit of innovation and originality that characterizes Rush," said Robert Ott, Chairman and CEO of ole. "ole is proud to bring Rush's music to a new generation of fans as they celebrate 40 years of great songs."
"Our community of musicians rose to the challenge and created amazing reinterpretations of Rush's classic tracks," said JJ Rosen, CEO of Indaba Music. "The Top 3 all brought new life to an iconic catalog, maintaining the soul of the original versions while making them distinctly their own."
"It's been great fun listening to the Indaba community's take on Rush's songs," said Rush A&R Rep Andy Curran. "These musicians have created some truly original takes on songs that the band has been playing for decades. We're looking forward to meeting Matthieu in Los Angeles."
