Genre-bending musical artist Yoko Ono has agreed to allow NBC's The New Normal to feature one of her deceased husband's most beloved and cherished songs in the season finale of the freshman series - John Lennon's "Beautiful Boy".

Creator Ryan Murphy confirmed the use of the iconic tune in the upcoming episode, stating that he and co-created Ali Adler intended to use the song as an entire sequence on the show, sans dialogue, and let the poignant lyrics and tender melody speak for itself.

"We reached out to Yoko Ono to get permission to use that song for an entire act with no dialogue and she said yes," Murphy said.

Murphy also related that the impact of his own revolutionary GLEE, as well as the awareness created by gay-friendly fare such as MODERN FAMILY, has blasted open the doors of acceptance and made a series like The New Normal possible.

"If you know someone and you know what their struggle is, you're less likely to have prejudice against them. [Gay rights] is the biggest civil rights movement of our time and the reason we've had the quick leap forward is because of television."

No confirmation on when the episode will air has been confirmed at this time.

THE NEW NORMAL follows the relationship between two men (played by Andrew Rannells and Justin Bartha) as they embark on a journey to have a baby via surrogate (Georgia King) and the growing relationship that forms and develops between them and the family she brings with her to Los Angeles from back home (among them, Bebe Wood as her daughter and Ellen Barkin who arrives as a vicious grandmother-from-hell).

THE NEW NORMAL airs Tuesdays at 9:30 PM on NBC.
