On the eve of AFM, XLrator Media has acquired North American distribution rights to The Comedy DON PEYOTE, starring Dan Fogler (Balls of Fury), Josh Duhamel (Safe Haven), Jay Baruchel (This is the End) with special appearances by Anne Hathaway (Academy Award winner, Les Miserables) and Topher Grace (Spider-Man 3). XLrator Media will release the film theatrically in Spring 2014.
"DON PEYOTE is an off-the-wall, metaphysical stoner comedy head trip with an amazing cast and unique sensibility. It is destined to become a cult classic and midnight movie perennial," said XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon.
DON PEYOTE was written and directed by Dan Fogler and Michael Canzoniero (The Marconi Bros.) and produced by Stuart Braunstein, Luke Daniels, Thomas Sullivan and Carlos Velasquez with production companies Studio 13 and Tunnel.
"I'm excited to work with the twisted creative minds at XLrator Media who, without fear or loathing, embraced our comedic magnum opus about the end of the world. If they are going to get it on 5,000 screens, they better work quickly," said Fogler.
DON PEYOTE tells the story Warren Allman (Dan Fogler), an unemployed stoner who finally finds a purpose in life after an unpleasant encounter with a homeless man preaching the end is near. Fueled by vivid apocalyptic dreams, Warren becomes obsessed with 2012 doomsday theories and decides to make a documentary on the subject while his fiancé is busy planning their wedding.
The deal was negotiated by Barry Gordon and Mike Radiloff on behalf of XLrator Media and Delphine Perrier and Arianne Fraser of Highland Film Group on behalf of the filmmakers.
Highland Film Group will be handling international rights during AFM.
