March is Women's History Month, and public television's WORLD Channel is celebrating by showcasing films that feature women in front of and behind the camera. The Departure and Armed with Faith, two films by dynamic women filmmakers whose careers are on the rise, make their U.S. broadcast premieres next month.
Doc World: The Departure (March 11, 10pm ET on WORLD Channel) Award-winning director Lana Wilson?s second film follows Ittetsua Nemoto who after a youth filled with drinking and partying, was in a near fatal motorcycle accident. The accident made Ittetsua realize just how precious life was and he became a Zen Buddhist monk whose life's work is to save people from committing suicide.
Doc World: Armed with Faith (March 18, 10pm ET on WORLD Channel) Armed with Faith, co-directed by acclaimed director Geeta Gandbhir, follows men in a bomb disposal unit at the front lines of the war against Al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Pakistan. The film follows these men as they fight for control over a vulnerable area of their country and work to protect themselves and their families.
