Up for four awards this year, Puerto Rican musician, songwriter and record producer Wisin, best known as a member of the duo Wisin & Yandel, released his first solo album "El Sobreviviente" in 2004, and ten years later, in 2014, his second solo studio album, "El Regreso del Sobreviviente," spending 20 weeks at No. 1 on the Latin Rhythm Albums chart. THE PIONEERS of the genre and a staple on the charts, holding the record for most top 10's on the Latin Rhythm Airplay chart with 30 songs. Urban rising star J Balvin, from Medellín, Colombia, is one of the hottest music acts today. A 12-time finalist this year, Balvin spent 10 weeks atop Latin Rhythm Airplay with "6 AM" featuring Farruko, his first song to hit No. 1 on the chart.
Carlos Vives is the man who rescued one of the best artistic expressions of Colombia, and his commercial success is evident. Vives holds five No. 1s on the Hot Latin Songs chart and 11 top 10 songs. A six-time finalist for this year's awards, Julión Alvarez y Su Norteño Banda, is a highly successful regional Mexican band from the state of Sinaloa, Mexico. The group spent six weeks at the top of the Regional Mexican Airplay chart with "Te Hubieras Ido Antes," and four weeks at No. 1 with "Y Asi Fue" in 2014. Both tracks reached the top 10 on the Hot Latin Songs chart.
Mexican songstress Ana Gabriel reached the stage for the first time at the age of six, singing José Alfredo Jiménez's "Regalo A Dios." In 1986, Ana Gabriel represented Mexico at OTI's Festival, and two years later broke through with the release "Tierra De Nadie," which included her first smash hit "Simplemente Amigos." She has six No. 1s on the Hot Latin Songs chart and 20 top 10s (the third-most top 10s for a female singer after Gloria Estefan and Shakira). Mexican star Lucero began as a child actress in productions like "Alegrías de Mediodía" and "Chispita." As a teen, she appeared in the film "Coqueta," which also featured Pedro Fernandez. Lucero also released over a dozen albums of rancheros, mariachi music and Latin pop, including 1998's "Cerca De Ti." Lucero's latest album "Aqui Estoy," which launched last December, debuted at No. 4 on the Latin Pop Albums chart, and No. 9 on the Top Latin Albums chart. She has had six top 10s on the Hot Latin Songs chart. Both Ana Gabriel and Lucero are finalists for the Top Latin Albums, Artist of the Year, Female award.
