Winners of World Emoji Awards to be Announced on World Emoji Day

To celebrate the fourth annual World Emoji Day (@WorldEmojiDay) on Monday July 17, Emojipedia will be announcing the winners of the World Emoji Awards (#WorldEmojiAwards) live from the New York Stock Exchange. For the first time, a new Lifetime Achievement award is being granted to the most popular emoji of all time. Emoji contenders include Face With Heart Eyes, Tears of Joy, and Pile of Poo.

People around the world can continue to cast their vote for awards including Best New Emoji (of 2016) and Most Anticipated Emoji (of 2017) until 2pm US Eastern Time.

Winners will be announced at 3.40PM ET on live video news and entertainment network Cheddar.

Cheddar CLOSING BELL hosts Lisa Hope King and Tim Stenovec will be joined by special guest Emojipedia founder Jeremy Burge for the announcement. CLOSING BELL streams live from the Trading Floor of the New York Stock Exchange.

About World Emoji Day Celebrated annually since 2014, World Emoji Day was the #1 trending topic on Twitter on July 17 in 2015 and 2016. Celebrations take place online and in the physical world.

Created by Emojipedia founder Jeremy Burge as a celebration of things emoji, July 17 was chosen for this holiday due to the calendar emoji displaying the date July 17 on Apple iOS devices.

The EMPIRE State Building will be lit "emoji yellow" on July 17 this year in celebration of World Emoji Day. Girls Who Code and Oath For Good will join Emojipedia founder Jeremy Burge and Patrick Stewart, Maya Rudolph and Jake T. Austin from Sony Pictures Animation "The Emoji Movie" to light the building in a bright yellow colour.

Saks Fifth Avenue is joining the fun with the launch of a new window display featuring emoji-inspired fashion and accessories led by renowned designed Jason Wu as part of its "Saks Fifth Avenue x The Emoji Movie" collection.

Australia's "emoji loving" Foreign Minister Julie Bishop shares a birthday with World Emoji Day and as such is considered Emoji Royalty. Other well known birthdays on this day include David Hasselhoff, Angela Merkel, and the Duchess of York.
