Washington Capitals Can Win First Stanley Cup In Team History Tonight Image

Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals are on the brink of winning their first-ever Stanley Cup in franchise history, while Marc-Andre Fleury and the expansion Vegas Golden Knights look to stave off elimination to extend the series, as NBC Sports' exclusive coverage of the Stanley Cup Final continues with Game 5 tonight at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. Coverage begins at 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN with a two-hour edition of NHL LIVE from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The Capitals lead the series 3-1 and are one win shy of claiming their first Stanley Cup to become the first major sports team in Washington, D.C. to win a title since the Redskins defeated the Buffalo Bills in SUPER BOWL XXVI in January of 1992. Washington has played 3,700 games since joining the NHL in 1974-75, and currently owns the fifth-longest title drought in the league.

NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app - NBC Sports Group's live streaming product for desktops, mobile devices, tablets, and connected TVs - will provide streaming coverage of all 2018 Stanley Cup Final games.

Six-time Emmy Award-winning play-by-play commentator Mike 'Doc' Emrick, U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member and analyst Eddie Olczyk, and Emmy Award-winning 'Inside-the-Glass' analyst Pierre McGuire will call the 2018 Stanley Cup Final on NBC and NBCSN. This marks the 12th consecutive year that Emrick, Olczyk and McGuire will call the Stanley Cup Final for NBC Sports, one of the longest streaks by any broadcast team calling a major U.S. team sport championship.

PREDATORS' P.K. SUBBAN TO SERVE AS GUEST ANALYST FOR NBC SPORTS' GAME 5 COVERAGE

Nashville Predators defenseman and 2013 Norris Trophy winner P.K. Subbanwill serve as a guest analyst for NBC Sports' coverage of Game 5, joining hostLiam McHugh and analyst Keith Jones for pre-game and intermission coverage throughout the evening.

The three-time All-Star and nine-year veteran defenseman will offer insight and analysis about tonight's game in which the Stanley Cup could be awarded to the Capitals. Subban, who was drafted in the second round of the 2007 NHL DRAFT by the Montreal Canadiens, scored a career-high 16 goals during the 2017-18 regular season and is again a finalist for the Norris Trophy, which is awarded annually to the league's best defenseman. He scored four goals and added five assists during the postseason, as the Predators ultimately fell to the Winnipeg Jets in Game 7 of the Second Round. Last year, Subban and the Predators advanced to the Stanley Cup Final, eventually losing to the Pittsburgh Penguins in six games.

Subban also has family ties to the Golden Knights - his brother, Malcolm Subban, is a goaltender for Vegas and posted a 13-4-2 record in net during the regular season.

In addition, Kathryn Tappen and Paul Burmeister will host pre-game and post-game coverage from an outdoor set at T-Mobile Arena, capturing the scene amongst the fans alongside analysts and former players Jeremy Roenick, Brian Boucher, and Anson Carter

STANLEY CUP FINAL GAME 5 - WASHINGTON CAPITALS AT VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS AT 8 P.M. ET ON NBC FROM T-MOBILE ARENA IN LAS VEGAS

The Washington Capitals look to end their 44-year Stanley Cup drought with a victory against the Vegas Golden Knights this evening. The Capitals are 3-0 in potential series-clinching games in these playoffs, while the Golden Knights have yet to lose four straight games all season.

Capitals forward and Conn Smythe favorite Evgeny Kuznetsov tied a Stanley Cup Final game record with four assists en route to the Capitals' 6-2 win in Game 4 on Monday in Washington D.C. Kuznetsov's 31 points in the playoffs are the most in a single postseason since 2009 (Evgeni Malkin - 36; Sidney Crosby - 31). He could become just the third Russian-born player to lead the league in postseason scoring in the modern era.

Fleury, who entered the Stanley Cup Final with a 12-3 record this postseason, has allowed three-plus goals in each game this series. The six goals he surrendered in Game 4 were the most he's allowed in a playoff game since 2013.

Following is the remaining telecast schedule for the 2018 Stanley Cup Final with networks and start times. Pre-game coverage will begin each night with NHL LIVE at 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
