Warner Bros. and Appian Way's Leonardo DiCaprio have signed Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy to write a modern adaptation of H.G. Wells' 1896 novel THE ISLAND OF DR MOREAU for the big screen.
For the original report, head on over to Deadline.
This is not the first time DR MOREAU has been adapted for the screen. Movie versions include 1932's Island of Lost Souls, starring Charles Laughton and Bela Lugosi, and a 1977 adaptation with Burt Lancaster and Michael York, followed by another in 1996, featuring Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer. The novel has also been adapted for the stage.
Wells' sci-fi classic follows a shipwrecked man who is rescued by a boat and dropped off at the home of Dr Moreau, a scientist who creates human-animal hybrids through vivisection.
Shipman and McGreevy are the writers behind Netflix's popular horror series Hemlock Grove.
