WORLD NEWS WITH DIANE SAWYER Takes Adults 25-54 for the Week

"ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" ranked as the No. 1 evening newscast in Adults 25-54 (1.936 million) for the week of June 2, 2014, according to Nielsen Media Research. "World News" beat NBC's "Nightly News" (1.857 million) during the week by 79,000 Adults 25-54. In fact, "World News" has ranked No. 1 in Adults 25-54 for the 6th time in the last 9 weeks.

"World News" improved over the previous week (7.299 million, 1.903 million and 1.339 million, respectively, for w/o 6/3/14) in Total Viewers (+2%), Adults 25-54 (+2%) and Adults 18-49 (+5%). In fact, "World News" stood as the only evening program to grow week to week in all 3 measures as "CBS Evening News" (-1%/-8%/-8%) and "NBC Nightly News" (-5%/-7%/-9%) each turned in losses.

"World News" improved on the same week last year in Total Viewers (+7%), Adults 25-54 (+13%) and Adults 18-49 (+18%) - 6.990 million, 1.712 million and 1.198 million respectively, on w/o 6/3/13. "World News" was also the only evening newscast to grow in all 3 demos year to year as "CBS Evening News" (+4%/-8%/-13%) and "NBC Nightly News" (+2%/-4%/-2%) were both mixed.

"ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" ranked as the No. 1 evening newscast in Adults 18-49 (1.409 million). "World News" beat NBC's "Nightly News" (1.368 million) during the week by 41,000 Adults 18-49. "World News" Snapped NBC's 145-week winning streak in Adults 18-49, turning in its largest margin of victory in the demo in nearly 6 years - since w/o 7/28/08.

"World News" outperformed "Nightly News" on Tuesday (+115,000 - 1.985 million vs. 1.870 million) and Friday (+174,000 - 1.594 million vs. 1.420 million).

"World News" slashed its week to week margins with "NBC Nightly News" in Total Viewers (-71% - 234,000 vs. 808,000) to deliver its closest overall viewer performance with "Nightly News" in nearly 9 months - since w/o 9/2/13.

"World News" also cut its year to year gap with "NBC Nightly News" in Total Viewers (-57% - 234,000 vs. 548,000).

Season to date, "World News" is up versus the same point last season in both Total Viewers (+4%) and Adults 25-54 (+5%), delivering its most-watched season in 5 years and best news demo number in 3 years - since the 2008-09 and the 2010-11 seasons, respectively. "World News" also stands as the only evening newscast to improve on its news demo performance from the previous season compared to "CBS Evening News" (-5%) and "NBC Nightly News" (-2%).

In addition, "World News" is narrowing its season margin with "NBC Nightly News" in Adults 25-54 by double digits (-46% - 171,000 vs. 317,000) compared to its season margin from the same point last year. In fact, cutting its Adults 25-54 gap for the 3rd consecutive season, "World News" is seeing its closest news demo performance with the NBC program in 6 years - since the 2007-08 season.

"World News" has nearly doubled its Adults 25-54 lead over "CBS Evening News" versus its year-ago season lead (+98% - 393,000 vs. 198,000).

For the week, "ABC World News" led the "CBS Evening News" by its largest Total Viewer (1.534 million) and Adult 25-54 (549,000) margins in 7 weeks - since w/o 4/14/14.

Note: Due to the NBA Finals Game 1 on Thursday (6/5/14), "World News" was retitled "Wrld News Tonite" and is excluded from the average. In addition, due to NHL Finals Game 1 on Wednesday, "Nightly News" was retitled "Nitely News" and is excluded from the average. ABC's (Mon - Wed and Fri) and NBC's (Mon - Tue and Thurs - Fri) weekly averages are based on four days, while CBS' weekly averages are based on five days.
